i asked in the ip5 thread but is this really an issue at all? i never at any time thought that i needed this feature
Is there some technical issue preventing simultaneous voice and data? That's what I'm curious about.

It's the fact that simultaneous voice and data doesn't come in handy all that often. People make it seem like a huge issue, but it isn't.
So are you going to stop your conversation and start checking sports scores? Maybe you're on that con call you don't care about so sure, but when actually talking? Yeah let's see you read that email and carry out a conversation.
Oh so you want to call while you tether? Well I suppose then. But how many people tether anyway on an iPhone?
from what i was reading earlier its because it basically requires 2 separate radios which many android phones have, ip5 is a all in 1 solution
Apple is literally retarded. I don't see how iFans can justify this.

It's only a mistake if someone at Apple is slapping themselves in the forehead saying "OH MY GOD HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!!!!". Yeah no. They know that most people couldn't care less.
Pretty much everyone on WiMax or regular CDMA has the same constraint, I have yet to see it be an issue.Tmobile or ATT or someone was trying to use in their marketing with literally zero impact, as most people see it as a gimmick.
I don't think I've ever had a case where I would put someone on speakerphone to be able to google something; the closest thing would be switching to an open maps app or open browser window.
You _DO_ realize that Verizon is as much to blame for this as Apple? You make a lot of outrageous and wrong claims against Apple, it's to the point that it is ridiculous how biased you are. I've refuted you on at least two ridiculous anti-Apple claims and you ignored my post because you know you are wrong.
For those with at least a shred of impartiality, most of the CDMA implementations in the USA do not allow simultaneous voice & data. This required two radios, one for voice, and one for data. This is a fault of CDMA and it is also Verizon's fault for using CDMA. This is not Samsung's fault. Not Google's. And most definitely not Apple's.
And this is not to imply CDMA is inferior, there were definitely advantages to using CDMA over GSM. There is also an update to CDMA which allowed both voice & data but wasn't enabled by Verizon until 2011.
Now, Apple has implemented a single chip for both CDMA and LTE. That means they are not using two radios (antenna design may play a part in this) so it can't access voice and data at the same time over Verizon's CDMA network. Obviously other phones have the two radios necessary for this functionality. For aesthetic as well as cost reasons, Apple is not going this route. Therefore, only either voice or data at one time. But as anyone who is impartial can see, this is as much Verizon's fault as it is Apple's.
From the perspective of Apple, most people (especially non-geeks) will use this feature. Is it nice? Definitely. Would I like it? Definitely. Will the average Joe miss it? Not likely. So Apple is not implementing a feature most people won't miss and saving a few bucks in the process. Sounds like a brilliant business decision to me even if it does suck for geeks and power users.
It's not a huge deal but big enough for AT&T to make a commercial promoting just this feature over the Verizon version of the iPhone a while ago.
You do realize the choice for CDMA was made loooooong before the iPhone was a glint in Steve's eye, right?

this was because qualcomm obviously had some under the table shady crap going on. they tried this in other countries like brazil, canada, etc, which all abandoned cdma in going to 3G networks and went for HSDPA. in fact they deployed 3G so well that by 2010 they were using GSM phones with no CDMA fallback at all.again, it was chosen a long time ago. so long, in fact 1x-rtt wasn't available yet. maximum was 14.4 kbps rate on a single CE. do you think that in 1998 timeframe you would have had the foresight that there would even be a smartphone market?
PS VZW didn't chose it. The regional operators that later formed VZW already chose CDMA.
