folks I have XP PRO running on an ECS K7S5A motherboard and I went to their website and downloaded the latest Bios flash and the AMI Bios Flash program

Now according to their Flashing instructions , they say to make a boot disk on a floppy and copy the flash writer and bios file to the floppy disk..ect, ect

Couldnt I just open up a DOS command prompt screen within Windows and run the flash utility and FLASH my BIOS then just reboot to have the settings take effect?

Can this be done or would this severly screw everything up??

The reason for booting to floppy is so that no memory managers are loaded as those tend to hose the flash.

Since I dont have a floppy drive, I wanted to keep this as simple as possible....would running the flash utility and ROM upgrade from a COMMAND PROMPT DOS window DEFINITELY screw something up or are you just being overly safe?

IF you could even get this to work and attempt the flash, you would have a better than even chance of hosing your BIOS. You may be able to do this by creating a CD Boot disk but I have no experience with that. I have heard of others doing it though.

10$ for a floppy would make life alot easyer.......
Ya know, it seems to me that I suggested the same thing once before (in a different thread of his) and mr DarkFudge2000 has his own stubborn reasons for not doing that. Maybe he will remind me of that again. ;) Heck, I got a few used ones laying around I'd make him a good deal on if he wanted. :D Not really that serious but it could happen.
Remember DarkFudge2000, you can always disconnect and remove the floppy once you have accomplished your task. No one would be the wiser............................;)
