Simple Power Switch Mod Question....

I am interested in doing a somewhat simple mod for my system. (I am about to put a 120mm fan on the side of my case when i get a hole saw). I want to make a power and perhaps reset button(s) on the back of my case. They will probably be identical to create. I was thinking of somehow splitting the cable that runs from my case and connects to the motherboard. I would prefer to be able to power on the system from either the front button or new back button. Also what kind of switch or button would I need? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Any momentary contact switch would work. The simplest would probably be a push button switch like seen here but there are also momentary toggle switches etc. Basically anything that is a momentary switch will work. I myself am pondering the idea of finding a working ignition switch from a car to act as the power switch for my computer.

Thanks for the response. So if I got the momentary switch that you linked in your reply, all I would need to do is connect 2 wires to the wire that is currently connecting my case to my motherboard? Just strip the wire a little bit near the middle and connect it with some electrical tape? Assuming I connect the ground and lead wires correctly 🙂

yep that would do it...and you don't even have to worry about polarity (which wire is which) with switches. There is no right way to put on a switch...no correction there is no wrong way to connect a switch.
