I think that's the same band that 'sings' that other monstrosity I despise.. 'Looking Down the Barrel' or whatever it's called.

If that singer had any friends they would tell him that his voice sucks and he has no business trying to hit the 'high note'.

C'mon now, that song is actually one of the better things to come out on the radio for the longest time. I think the singer has a great voice, IMO.

Your just jealous cuz you can't hit the high note

:p

True story about this song. I was going around the office trying to find out who it was that sang the song and no one could help me. I just kept making fun of it and people didn't believe me that someone singing as bad as I described could possibly get the airplay that this song had.

Finally, I caught the song on the air and rushed out to tell everyone. No one liked it. Everyone cringed when this guy would try to hit high notes. If anyone honestly think the guy who sang that song has a voice worth a damn then they need to actually listen to some music that's not on the rock station. :p

It's one thing to scream. I like stuff like Slipknot. It's another thing to be a white guy trying to sing like you're in Boys II Men or something. Hell, the only one who can even come close is Gavin DeGraw and he isn't even really hitting it big at all.

The guy can sing. Obviously a lot of people think so, otherwise the song wouldn't be getting that much airplay. I'd like to hear your hit record, since you seem to think you know what constitutes talent and what doesn't. Oh, you don't have one? Thats right, you're a cubicle rat who has nothing better to do than criticize the work of others to try and gain some sort of parity with them.

I think you're just jealous because that guy gets more ass than a toilet seat, doing something he loves, and getting recognized for it, while you will probbably slave away in your little office building for the rest of your life in hopes of having a pension that is just a fraction of what that guy makes off of a 3 month tour.

Please. Go listen to some REAL singers and then come back and tell me that the guy who is singing that song can sing. He has no talent and I guarantee you that the only people who think so are those who listen to today's version of alternative hard rock. Perhaps you should open your mind a little and go listen to some people with REAL voices and then maybe you'll understand.

I implore everyone reading this thread to find a sample (no condoning of mp3 downloads in this thread! ;) ) of this song and judge for yourself. Oh, and I'm talking about the 'Looking Down the Barrel' song that had people in my office thinking someone was actually DYING on the radio waves.

BTW, based on your apparent need to resort to personal attacks, I suggest you need to grow up and learn to control that anger a little bit. My criticism of this guy's atrocious voice has nothing to do with toilet seats nor cubicles. Oh, and sorry but I don't work in a cubicle. ;)

Can you sing better? I'm not a huge fan of the guy, but hes got talent. Perhaps it is YOU who should open your mind a little, since I'm not even a big fan of most of the stuff I hear on the radio, including this band. That doesn't mean the guy isn't talented. He can sing better than me, he can sing better than you, and he's the one whos getting paid to sing while you're getting paid to work in an office -- dont you think theres a reason for that?

I wasn't making personal attacks, I was just making a point. You can not like the guy's voice all you want, but to say he isn't talented is foolish, and it makes you look jealous.

Actually, I'm 90% certain that I can sing that song better than him. Nothing I've said should make me 'look jealous' at all and I fail to see where you come up with that assumption. I would never want to be that guy... ever.

I dunno, I've heard plenty of musicians talk sh!t about popular music (although I see your point).

WTF? If you release a song you have to understand that it is going to be criticized. Have you even entered real life yet? Or did you play baseball in one of those leagues where everybody wins? I'm so lost as to what world you live in that criticism is apparently nonexistant.

You're still in college and full of great ideas aren't you... :p

No, and I realize that when you release stuff to the public theres always going to be people who criticize. That doesn't mean critics aren't ass goblins, it just means ass goblins are in no short supply.

I guess there's strength in numbers.

Lets hear it. Do you have access to a microphone?

Books, music and movies are criticized every sing day. It is part of life. If you release something into the mainstream, you have to expect it to be criticized. This is regardless of whether he makes music or sings it. It doesnt take an expert to hear something and say, "Wow. that is bad music."

I guess we could shift the discussion away from that specific song for a second.

If I said NSYNC sucks how many people would agree with me? :p

I really liked Shinedown's first song, "Fly From The Inside". Great melody, and I thought the singer was good too. I liked that he sang higher than Eddie Vedder. Something I hadn't heard in over 10 years. I haven't bought the CD, because I didn't really like the other songs I heard, but that first single they released is good, IMO.

Scroll down to hear it

N'SYNC does suck. That doesn't mean they're not talented. All of those guys can sing on their own pretty good. Their taste in music is horrible.

The members of Shine Down are huge Skynard fans, and come from the same town no less. Taking offense at a group paying homage to a group they revere is the height of elitest immaturity. Grow up! They haven't tried to pass it off as their own song, and yes the lead singer can sing. If you don't like it, don't fuggin listen to it! I like Skynard, but I'm not rabid about them - Shine Down's 'Simple Man' is a good song and certainly not the auditory hell a lot of you seem to portray it as.

They don't sound totally gay like The Darkness, they don't have innane lyrics like Pools of Sh!t, and they (at least now anyway) aren't the 'image whores' *cough* Hip Hop *cough* that so many groups have turned into in this MTV age.

So in conclusion: don't like it, don't listen to it.

Pardon my dyslexia, I was thinking the other Eddie. And that's scary, cuz I'm a huge Pearl Jam fan.

Ok, no more soda for me today!

Edit: Speaking of Hung - anyone know where I can download some vids of him singing? I saw a quick clip on TV and almost died I was laughing so hard.

Are you talking about the remake to the Skynyrd song? I've never heard it and I'm glad I haven't.

As for the "Take My Breath Away" remake, that's just pure crap. It's like they try to take any life or feeling out of music and turn it into some processed pop pile of sh_t.

I'm waiting to see if anyone ever covers "Wish You Were Here" from Pink Floyd. I wonder what kind of trash they'll turn it into....Maybe speed it up a bit and put some rap lyrics over it.....

I want to throw up

Radiohead covered Wish You Were Here. Its decent, nothing to get excited about though.

Hell. I never knew Radiohead covered it. They do some pretty good stuff so I'd give it a listen. I'm not against remakes, it's just usually they ruin everything good about the song. Every now and then someone gets it right and either equals or even improves a song by adding their own flavor to it.
