Is there a good guide on how the whole trade/mining/drilling/smelting stuff works? Like what exactly helps produce more money? I seem to be a bit lost on this one...I have trade stations with addons, and all trucks, yet everyone complains about not having anywhere to store freight?

I would also like to know more about layouts, as my industrial always complain about no workers, when I have 200k+ population...

How the working with other cities works out exactly ... I do not see a draw if I ask to use other cities utilities, it does not show up in my hourly budget report, or does it?

I also am curious what happens when I volunteer my cops/fireman/medical/garbage/etc to go to other cities. Say I have 4 ambulances, I volunteer another city 2 of them, does my city only have 2 left then?

Don't get too excited about cities working together. The game is really bugged in that area. Eventually, resources should be shared, but is probably a patch or two away.

I also saw today how little the servers do. I lost connection and played for another 2+ hours. It seems that the servers are more about save check points and trying to marshal the regional interactions. I would venture to guess that both single and multi-player are handle the same way which is why an "always-on" connection is needed. This is also why cities appear to roll back. You progress locally on your desktop, but the save check points are not being recorded for the next session.

That sucks ... but any ideas on my other questions, more detailed about long term game stuff?

Try simtropolis.com forums, now that the game is up and running for most a ton of info is flowing through that place.

There are some good region related bugs too! I sent one city 1 million and it received it and then every month for 6 months another million popped up for free ;)

Is it even possible to create a city with no residents?

Like a 100% industry city? I've been trying really hard but there seems too be no way of transporting workers around. Either it is a bug or I'm missing something obvious.

It is actually quite fun. The only thing that bugs me is the city size limit. I understand they did that on purpose to drive regional development, but I only ever play on private (I have no interest in multiplayer) so for me I'd rather have it all under one roof. That said, I can still see the fun in developing multiple cities in one region all by myself and manipulate trade.

So are the stability issues finally resolved? I would like to get it but have been holding off until it becomes stable enough I can actually play it.

Some of the server stability issues have been fixed but the game has so many bugs it isn't even funny. There are several major bugs with traffic, police, health, disasters, water etc, that need to be fixed before things start working correctly.

I imagine to save server side resources as well. If more people spend their money on the game, than the more incentive they have to invest in more server resources. The game looks fun, but I will wait until all the kinks are straiten out.

You might want to wait until they at least put back in all the features they have patched out in an attempt to get their servers working...

Hmm, I am tempted to get this game now. I will try to find Sim City 4 but if I cannot, then I might just get this. It seems as if it is getting back on track. However, the $60 price is a bit much for a game right now. Maybe when its $40 it might be a better deal.

Maybe by then it will be more stable - then again, not a huge difference between $60 and $40 and this is Sim City we're talking about :D

This whole debacle made me dig out my SimCity 3000 disk. Been playing that. I don't have a system robust enough to run the new one (not that I'd buy it anyway) so having some fun without having to connect to any servers. :)

Lovely. I used to play that game for hours and hours. Loved it - the large maps were truly large and you had to actually plan out your city. It's a bit weird that when I bought Sim City 4 a few years ago, my integrated graphics could not run that game all that well. Now that I can actually run it, Sim City 5 comes along. Maybe I should check SC4 instead ... if I can find it ... :D

The whole idea of regions is just stupid imo.. I used to love huge area's of land that I could form myself and then try to build your one city.. Can't they at least give us that option if we want?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time until you see a paid DLC to expand city sizes.

So I'm in a private region in which I've started 2 cities. One city is doing reasonable well with money well over 500k and I recentled started my second city. I decided to help get the new city going by gifting 100k from the established city to the new one. I used the regional gift tool and it took the money from the city but it never showed up on the other end. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? It seems prettys straight forward but I might have missed something. Can anyone give me tips or info about this? Thanks in advance.

Bug/server error. Still a lot of issues with regional sharing.

SimCity 4 is on Steam. Definitely get the Rush Hour pack.

I'm tempted to get SimCity because a friend has it and loves it. I get the feeling that they didn't call it SC5 for a reason: It's a reboot. It sounds much more like The Sims than a true simulator. I'd like to punish EA for what they did, but they do seem relatively apologetic. I don't know what message buying it today would send.

You can find Simcity 4 Deluxe on Steam for $20. The new Simcity plays differently than all the earlier versions so if you like what you're seeing in regards to the new gameplay you might want to just get the new one instead of getting the old one just to turn around and get the new one anyway.

There are some things not to like, but there are many more things to like. It isn't Simcity of old but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. That said, if you aren't willing to deal with some of the technical issues that are happening right now I would definitely wait a week or two before purchasing. The servers are far more stable now than they were a few days ago but there is still missing features and the servers tend to go down for restart multiple times a day.

I had an issue when I attempted the same thing. It didn't show up and then about an hour or two into playing the city it suddenly showed up. Not sure if there's a delay or if it's a bug or what. It was a bit annoying as that city was dying and really needed the money right away.

I already have Sim City 4 but what I meant was I need to find the copy of it. I'm sure its around somewhere. :) You're right, I keep calling it Sim City 5 to distinguish it I guess. So you're saying that the game is not a true city simulation rather a social game like The Sims? Does that mean that we peek inside the houses and see what our Sims are doing and stuff? I actually have not read any reviews on this game so this is new to me.

Anteaus, I am hesitant about the new game not for the technical reasons but for its actual game play. That is one of the reasons why I'm delaying finding my copy of Sim City 4. I would rather not compare the two and not enjoy the new game (Sim City 5). Its a flaw in me for sure.

As long as the game is about building a city in a fun way instead of gimmicks such as social media stuff or other unrelated things to the city etc., I'll be OK with it. The always online issue and having to use Origin does not bother me.
