Sim City 5

I wonder if EA always on DRM is going to backfire on them. With the issues with the severs, I would think more people would move to a hacked server to allow themselves to play alone. They already have Origin, screwed up by requiring the servers for single player.

I think at this point the worst is over. Now that majority of the players are happy I think they are good to go. Most people that bought the game don't care about the always online part, as long as they can get on the servers. I think EA said they have over 80% of the server issues resolved now. As long as they keep the community happy by patching bugs now I'm sure they will be fine.

Not being able to handle the load at release is a good indication that the anticipation for the game was very high. EA mentioned that they didn't expect so many last minute sales, which caused these initial server issues. Even though they screwed up, I'm sure they consider the game a success so far.

So far I like it overall. A few things are frustrating though, such as the small city size.

My online ID is MixolydianAT if anyone wants to play with me. (would you believe I've never played an online game before?)

I am liking it as well. I actually only had issues that first release day. Was fine every other day.

The one thing I did notice is my 7950 has issues running the game at full quality. The lighting makes me drop about 40fps between medium and ultra.

So are you all buying the Limited Edition ($59.99) or the Digital Deluxe Edition ($79.99)?

The only difference seems to be the additional foreign cities in the DDE version. I don't really care to make my city look like any of those cities so I'll pass on that.

Are you all playing smoothly? Any huge differences between the older Sim City games and this besides the online connection requirement and interconnected cities and regions?

Woo found my Sim4 cd's.

i will get the new one maybe in a few months. give them time to get it nailed down. or maybe if they drop the price.

SimCity 5 is fully simulated. Every single person/vehicle is actually simulated. So traffic issues, are real traffic issues. As apposed to older ones where it just created traffic where it thought there should be some.

Lot of other things, but I think thats one of the things that affects the game the most.

I'm back to the 20 minute wait to connect to a server. NA East 3. The game is full of bugs. It's still a decent game, but just be aware that certain aspects feel very 'cheap'.

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Ha so after playing flawlessly last night. The sever selection doesn't even show up.

Edit: Got in but having a hell of a time getting into my city 😀

Oh wow! I remember that!

This guy lol, i thought it was some sort giant duck or a spaceship back in the 90's when i played this.

yeah, it was probably my 3rd or 4th city at the time, just scrolling around looking at all my awesome buildings, the airplanes constantly crashing into my forest of Archos , then I suddenly notice this bug thing flying across and putting out fires and all that. like...wtf?

then I manage to scroll in, and notice it's a little yellow dude with a cape. ROFL!

I start paying attention to the newspapers again, and see that in the backlog, there is some announcement about a caped avenger setting up shop in zinville. 🙂

There is no twenty minute wait. The 20 minute timer is when the game with check automatically for server availability, you can still manually join by clicking the server select on the bottom left.

i haven't been able to get into North America East 2 for days. I have a good city i want to play with there. So far North America East 4 has been reliable for a few days. The pathing on any kind of hills sucks, and any little slope by the water.

I'm playing on NAE2 as well. Worked almos glitch-free for me yesterday. Right now I get the message that logins are disabled. Guessing they are publishing an update.

I've never played Sim City before. Any recommendations? I don't care about the server issues, just want to know if the game is worth buying or not (assuming everything was working well). I know people would suggest I plop $20 for Sim City 4, but I see little reason to put money down that hole if I like it and end up wanting the new one (so the total would be $80, and I would have spent $20 on a game I'd never play).

I bolded the part that should help you find an answer.

It's not really worth buying right now. There's a great game underneath all the connection issues, but you can't really get to it yet.

Kind of a shame. I guess I will tide myself over with YouTube videos for now and hope they fix everything. I'm not one to participate in the EA circlejerk that's happening on the Internet right now though.

Anyone notice how property values don't increase properly anymore, at least not like they did a few days ago? I got real estate in the medium and high zones that refuse to upgrade from low. Fire, police, school, and clinics don't have near the impact they used to and even dropping a $$$ garden doesn't really do much.

The only thing I can think of is that I'm either doing something wrong or there is a bug and/or patch that is affecting property value.

Anyone else notice this?

The only thing I want right now is proper functionality from the game, fixes for the bugs that still haunt many things I'm attempting to do. If they're going to value add anything, I'd really like to see things like larger maps so I'm not tapped out suddenly attempting to figure out how to add more blocks without hearing the sims have no room to grow.
