Petition the federal government to make lane splitting legal on state, county, and locally-owned roads.

Makes sense...

No.

Last thing we need is more motorcycle fatalities on the road because stupid motorcyclists think they can tear through standstill freeways at 70mph only to take a blind car in the face.

While I'm onboard for splitting myself, until people learn how to drive and punishment is increased for cagers who don't drive properly, I won't be doing it. If you wanna smear yourself across a highway, sure I'll sign.

The thing about motorcycles...and some people will hate me for saying this I guess. But you're putting your life at risk. Its stupid to put your life at risk, therefore motorcycle riders are IMO a bit more stupid than regular people. So now you have this collection of people who are stupider than regular people, out there doing stupid shit on a machine thats far more likely to get them killed than a car. I mean, its ridiculous.

This is just my opinion. Sorry. We are on the internet here, right? I can have an opinion.

I love the idea of riding a motorcycle, it has always been enticing to me. But I dont want to die.

You might want to compare the number of automobile deaths to motorcycle deaths in the city where you reside. It could change your opinion.

I'm all in favor of anything that allows idiot motorcyclists to eat the rear bumper of a car in a suicide attempt. So yeah, I'll sign. And every time I'm stuck in traffic I'll encroach on the line as much as legally possible.

The only way it could possibly change an opinion is of a person who has already been riding without a helmet, dropped the bike and suffered severe brain damage.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 72.34 per 100,000 registered motorcycles.[1] Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists' risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car.[1] In 2004, figures from the UK Department for Transport indicated that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries compared to cars, and double the rate of bicycles.[2]

If you have any stats that suggest otherwise I'd love you to cite them.

You're looking at deaths per capita. I'm talking about the actual numbers of deaths in cars versus death by motorcycles in the city he inhabits. Making decisions about your life by averages is so foolish as to be silly to even talk about. You need to understand what statistics are before trying to live your life by them.

You're petitioning the federal government to stick its nose into yet another matter that should be left up to the states? It doesn't matter what it's for... quit trying to take what little power the states have away.

What happened to you Olds? I don't remember you having such a mindset before.

Of course you're looking at the stats in an idiotic way because when you view them in the proper way they don't say what you want them to say. This is simple, a person on a motorcycle is FAR more likely to die than a person in a car and a person on a motorcycle is FAR more likely to be seriously injured than a person in a car and not even you could possibly be stupid enough to suggest otherwise no matter how you attempt to skew the facts.

So if cyclists are so stupid, why don't you be extra careful while driving so you don't allow them to get harmed? I mean, you and all other drivers have the safety of a car so you should look out for them.

Trying to apply large population statistics to individuals is foolish both, mathematically and personally. I say again, making decisions about how you live according to statistics is foolish in the extreme. Death on the other hand is as personal as it gets. But hey, you go right ahead and stay in your basement where it's safe (at least statistically). :D
