Bid the frickin' maximum amount you are willing to pay and stop whining about getting sniped. If you were willing to pay 202.50 you should have bid that much. Cry me a frickin' river

You guys are a bunch of f*cking a-holes. I'm so glad your rich asses can afford to try and pay retail or more than retail for the sh1t people sell on ebay. So much for a community where people could go to try and get a deal on stuff they want. And, btw, if I am willing to spend 200, ok, whats 2.50 I'll go up to 202.50, while just another 2.50 and I'll be protected a little more. This trend continues until the items price is touted up to a lovely $250. This is why one can often see prices on ebay that are higher than the market price would be where a poll of "How much would you pay for this?" were taken.

It's an auction. If someone decides to pay more than you they get the item. If they are paying 'retail or more than retail' then that's their problem, doesn't change the fact that they outbid you though.

Deal with the rampant buyer fraud first, and then we might be able to lower our prices.

I bid what I think the item is worth. Retail has NOTHING to do with Ebay, except for the fact that idiots are willing to pay more than retail just for the satisfaction of "winning." Ebay is capitalism in its truest form. The person who is willing to pay the most gets the item. It doesn't matter what it's selling for elsewhere.
You got outbid. Take your lumps like a man. If you needed an item THAT bad, you'd shell out the big bucks for it.

So much for a community where people could go to try and get a deal on stuff they want.
If you want a good deal, go look on the HOT DEALS forum.

The point is to decide the maximum *YOU* are willing to pay and STICK TO IT. NOT ONE PENNY MORE. If someone edges you by $1.00, then they outbid you.

I have news for you--the winning binner will ALWAYS win by the bid increment. You will always have lost by $1 or $2.50

If you want a good deal look in the "hot deals" forum like the other posters have said. Otherwise take your 2nd grade education and go to Best Buy.

Heres my major beef, k: I say, hell I'll pay 250 for this AGP card. I put in my max bid price 10-5 mins before auction close. I refresh the auction every minute or so and it looks A-OK. Then every 10 secs in the last minute. I'm winning, I'm winning, I'm winning, at $220 this whole time. Then I refresh and the auction has 5 secs left and somebody has used a program to insert his bid. He wins the card for $252.50. Logically there is no reason for me to have increased my max bid since I was winning at $220, $30 dollars less than my max. Most likely I would have been willing to pay up to $255-260, but why should I increase my max bid? Quintiscentially, sniping removes your ability to respond to a higher bid on an item you might very well pay more for. Now just coming along and telling me I should have put my max bid at $260 is a very simple minded argument. Now, if the person's sniper had the max bid set for like $280, then I can see them rightfully winning, otherwise it just makes things unfair by not allowing other bidders to respond to the new price.

so what your saying is that there should be a cut off time when nobody can bid anymore. For instance, nobody can bid in the last 10 seconds of the auction? How about 10 minutes? 100 minutes? Where's the limit.

No. Sniping programs allow the lazy people who are not willing to sit there and wait to place their bid very close to the auction end to do so and win.

You should increase your max bid b/c if you are willing to increase your max bid, then IT ISN'T YOUR MAXIMUM BID, NOW, IS IT? The only people snipers screw are people who bid lower than what they are willing to pay.

Quintiscentially, sniping removes your ability to respond to a higher bid on an item you might very well pay more for.
How? You could have placed your REAL maximum bid the first time around, and then you put the smack-down on all those would be snipers who now see "SNIPE FAILED-MAXIMUM BID TOO LOW."
Now just coming along and telling me I should have put my max bid at $260 is a very simple minded argument.
Sometimes the CORRECT argument is the SIMPLEST one. You seem to think Ebay is more magical and complicated than it is. SEE MY SIG.
Now, if the person's sniper had the max bid set for like $280, then I can see them rightfully winning, otherwise it just makes things unfair by not allowing other bidders to respond to the new price.

WTF?
Let me get this straight.
You set your max bid to $250.
If I set my max bid to $260, then I cheated you, but if set my max bid to $280, I "rightfully" won?
Are you listening to yourself?
EITHER WAY I WIN AT $252.50.

You should have to take a proficiency test on basic Ebay concepts before they allow you to participate...

#1. Qunitessential is spelled wrong.
#2. Quintessential is not used in the correct context. Websters defines it as the purest essence od something,
#3. You increase your max bid because thats what you're willing to pay for it. That by no means indicates you will pay max for it. If you're not willing to pay as much as the next guy, in ANY fashion, why should you win?

Conclusion: You are an idiot. Just pay more next time.

It is logical to bid the maximum that you are willing to pay. It is not logical to bid less than what you are willing to pay.

Why bid less than you are willing to pay? eBay will automatically bid for you up to your set maximum bid..so set your max price and be done with it. If you're outbid, you didn't set your bid high enough, or someone else was willing to pay more than you.

Like it or not, that's all there is to it.

Incorrect. People who bid too low allow sniping programs to beat them. Sniping programs allow the intelligent people to stay away from the manual bidding frenzy that Ebay's proxy bidding system was supposed to isolate you from in the first place.

You are screwing yourself by not allowing proxy bidding to do its job.
