Sick. Eh.

It's 2:42 on the East coast, and I don't feel like sleeping. So, instead of doing anything useful with my time, I figure I'd at least post a thread and say "ick, I'm sick." (Actually, for the guy who said earlier today that having a cold != sick, I concede, I'm not sick, I just have a cold.)

So, any good movie suggestions? Things to do while not sleeping? Spicy food or home remedies?

Or, is there just anyone else out there who's in the same boat at the moment?

BTW, The Towering Inferno was on AMC earlier tonight; not bad for a 70's movie. Much better than the Airport movies that were on earlier. But good lord, if women were all like those portrayed in 70's disaster movies, it would be better not to have any of them.

/End of drug induced rambling

(Edited because I know there aren't two "t's" in commiserate.)

I'm staying up until at least 4, because I keep expecting someone from work to call.

I hate having to pass off issues to other people when my shift ends :(

other than neff'ing on atot, I'm watching a couple Law and Order episodes on Tivo.

Thanks NutBucket. If I had a snowbording trip, I think I'd probably suck it up. As it is, I'm killing the last week of my vacation; grad school may make for lousy pay, but nice schedules -- some of the time at least.

And Loki, hope they call soon... or that you've got a lot of episodes on Tivo :-(

I have enough episodes to last until my roommate gets home at 8 am (that's who'd be calling me) ;)

but at 4 am, I'm going to call the office to make sure everything is going alright, and then shut my cellphone off before going to sleep.

I guess since it's my own thread, I can post something slightly random without being accused of thread-crapping too much.

But from your guy's perspective, does the international make up of ATOT change with the time of day? That is, now that it's three AM EST, do we have people from Europe posting as they get to work? Or is it comprised of so many techies/people with odd hours that it's generally American/Canadian all night long?

I think it's the last one.

I spent almost a year working 3rd shift (12 am - 8 am), and never noticed a difference in the international make up of OT

Books would be a nice thing today--all of the art-history things for work though, call for a little more than I'm willing to put into them at the moment. Now if only someone would combine delivery for Chinese food and fiction for the sick (Tom Clancy, John Grisham, insert your own favorites here), they'd make a ton of money. Certainly better than having to go to the used bookstore or the library.

AAman -- good luck with the surgery -- hope it goes well :)

Loki -- sounds like you're ATOT's resident nighttime guy. I'm guessing there was a lot of time to browse OT while working those hours. Are you in some kind of tech support?

I was sick for a couple of weeks, and could bear the aches and pains and fever etc.

The one thing I do require though is a nasal decongestant at bedtime. A $2 package of generic stuff will do for me, and I don't take it every "4 to 5 hours," but just at bedtime, and that does the trick.

The last good movie I watched was "Graveyard of the Fireflies", a Japanese cartoon about a boy and his little sister during WWII. SAD!

Also watched "The Is Spinal Tap" the other night, hehe. A lot of gems in there.

Hmm... sounds tastier than the vinegar/garlic/cayenne pepper mix that was thrust on me when I saw my parents the other day. I had to have a chaser (of water) after that.

Gotta ask, though, where do you get the jalapeno juice? drain the liquid from a jar of sliced jalapenos?

Ok, and in response to Iron Woode's comment on Text (let's hope I did that right) I'm going to the 24 hour Kroger to get some horseradish sauce. (His sig is also mildly amusing and entirely applicable to this situation.)

Wanescotting, I might just try the jalapeno/salsa later--I just figure that I can eat horseradish on crackers and kill the midnight snack too.

Anybody want anything while I'm gone?

Yes. Also, I would like to add that I do this in lieu of taking medicine. I refuse to pop pills for every little problem.

I have a cold/cough too. Have had it since Thursday. So much fun. Especially spending New Year's unable to breathe through your nose.

Yes, that is correct. Of course, you are talking to the same person that rinses with listerine for 5 or 6 minutes, and I ingest the juices when I dip.

I started getting a cold on the last day or two of my vacation. I was doomed to get it - my father-in-law, who was on the vacation with me, got sick right before it started. Next was my mother-in-law, then my wife, then finally me.

Well, just to report in, haven't tried the jalapeno juice yet, but who knows, today might be the day.

BTW, if anyone's going to try the horseradish remedy, I think you gotta go with the grated root. The sauces in the store--at least the Heinz version--weren't spicy enough. Although, that, with some mozzarella cheese and some toasted wheet crackers make a darn good early morning snack.

Hope you're all feeling better this morning :(

I'm not sick, but I thought I'd stop in just because you used the word "commiserate" and deserve adulation for it. Maybe you should defenestrate yourself; that will halt your sickness :p

Thanks for the adulation -- but it hasn't quite gotten to the point where I'm going to have to defenistrate myself yet --I'm too lazy to move the table so I can actually open the window. Besides, I've got a guest coming into town tomorrow.... if I killed myself (or, more likely, wound up in the hospital) she'd have no place to stay. :)
