Sick at work

Last night bout 7:00pm my throat started to hurt. I thought nothing of it, went to be about midnight (like usual) and drank some nyquil.

About 6am this morning I'm freezing and shivering under the covers, head full of neon orange mucus and throat pounding.

However, every Thursday at work they have a doctor come in and he'll see you for free, so why not go on in and stay away from everyone to keep them from getting sick?

Also, my wife and 2.5yo daughter are at home, so I think I'd get more rest at work than at home anyway...

If I'm sick, I go to work. Unless it's really bad - but that only happens like once every 3-4 years.

We don't have sick time, so unless it is bad, I go to work. Vacation is for just that, vacation.

maybe because they dont want it. keep your ass home if you are sick. with your fever and sore throat you are contagious.

ditto, but I'm not in close proximity to many people so my cooties play by themselves

I too am hanging out in my own little cube, many feet away from anyone else.

From your post, it was me, me, me... That usually tell how people fell about you.

Most times when people come in sick it is because the corporate culture makes them dread having to make that call to the boss, not because they want to share their germs.

Nah. I just don't want to use PTO for that. And besides - I believe that staying home and laying in bed and doing nothing all day isn't any good for me if I'm sick. I keep working and let my body burn it off. No resting needed. I haven't been seriously sick for years. I haven't been to the doctor since I was in 6th grade and had pnemonia. I don't take medicine for anything save an occasional bad headache.

that's part of it too, our main network admin is on vacation until next wednesday and i'm sort of his backup.

Plus, if they didn't want sick/hurt people coming to work, why would they have a doctor here every thursday? I get free medical care by walking down the hall...

Nice excuse with the whole kid thing but you coming to work and making me sick so that I bring it home to my kid is not cool dude. At least get yourself some antibiotics so you are not contagious if you are going to come in to work.

Agreed. Unless you're dying and you can't even work, I don't see how it hurts to go in while sick. Sure my productivity may drop from 100% to 90% but that's not too bad. I don't want to get people sick, but I don't believe in using PTO for minor sickness so that I can bum around the house. I mean seriously, how much work am I going to get done knowing I can nef all day long at home?

Bullshit. Everytime you touch a doorknob, pen, paper, copier, you are leaving your cooties for the next person to pick up.

When I was a contractor I used to go in to work when I was sick. Only regulars got vacation and sick days. Kinda sucked for them!

I read it. The doctor is at work right? Which means you will be around co-workers. Plus, he probably won't have antibiotics on him to sell to you. You will have to call in the perscription and leave work to pick them up at least an hour later. Then to top it all off, it takes some time while on the antibiotics before you are no longer contagious.

I am not trying to be jerk here. I just don't want to get sick and choices like make me more vulnerable. Please be more considerate.

QFT. If someone comes in and gives me their crap, an ass-beating will follow. Especially if my family ends up getting it too.

You're not showing how much of a loyal team player you are by coming in sick, you're just being a selfish jerk.

Exactly. The bathroom door comes to mind in particularly in addition to that list.

wow you guys must stick your fingers in your nose/mouth/ears all day long or something... I'm not coughing or sneezing, not touching any orifice that has mucus, washing my hands every hour or so, using antibiotic gel inbetween... paranoid freaks, get a better immune system

Come up with the cure for this...

About 6am this morning I'm freezing and shivering under the covers, head full of neon orange mucus and throat pounding.

...and I will shut up
