well, I'm watching it right now, and I see no problem with the final bits of season 4.

just got to the part where John? --the main Cylon dude (Quantum Leap guy) is having the long conversation with the last of the final 5, after her previously-unknown resurrection.

I thought that was rather brilliant for the series. His character came out, for the first time, as particularly evil--extremely villainous--his very real anger over the limitations programmed into him, his close relation to humans. It was quite awesome.

I was wondering where that writing and character development was for the previous 3.5 seasons. :\

True, the second half of season 4 was pretty solid, but most of season 3 was lame.

The Wire.

/thread

Yea!! The Wire is the ultimate. Many many times I sat through watching episode after episode thinking, 'this show will all end one day, and I will be sad.'

Like LSD or mushrooms, make sure you set enough time out of your schedule to enjoy it properly.

The Mentalist is ok, but just ok.

I like it...to a point, but like most shows, a severe suspension of knowledge is required. (zoom in...enhance.)

I'm just kind of astonished that they totally bailed on the opportunity to make this guy a serious villain earlier in the series.

I'm still not done with it, but it seems one of the major complaints is that as the writers were basically held in limbo every 10 or so episodes for the entier duration of the series--and even moreseo the final couple fo seasons--you end up with a mostly scattershot series.

there's a lot of good themes running throughout the series with real potential, but no meat as it seems they never had an idea of what storyline they could properly develop due to lack of a defined number of episodes. Though, I'll admit that being able to watch it in succession, a lot of the supposed whoa, wtf! crazy revelations near the end were pretty much foreshadowed early on, so I don't think the story is as bizarre and grasping as assumed from many of those who watched it live.

Anyway, that one bit of dialogue from Dean Stockwell's character--wow. that's some of the best TV writing anywhere.

I've also liked the president's character throughout. she's a stone cold bitch and doesn't afraid of anything.

What drama do you like?

The Wired seems to be like here.

dude, I think your "d" ended up on the wrong side fo your sentence.
😀

But yes, The Wire is universally loved everywhere because it is preposterously good. It's almost criminal how good it is.

I haven't watched these myself but a lot of people who like BSG also like Firefly. Shit, I forgot what the other show I was gonna say was.

it would appear you feel the same as me about BSG and/or lost- basically the last two long running serials i will ever watch due to the massive heartbreak they caused- cancellation would've been less a slap in the face.

so i would DEFINITELY recommended firefly. if you have trouble getting into it, watch the movie (serenity) first. the latter wouldn't be hurt by a little exposition, but it pulls you in much faster without confusing you too much.

dunno about farscape or stargate. never saw the appeal to those, though i do generally like scifi.

I didn't mind BSG so much as I hated Lost.

Hawaii 5-0 isn't bad...not great, but I watch it...mostly for the scenery. 🙄

Blue Bloods is very good...one of my favorites.

As already mentioned, Castle is pretty good, although it's more funny than drama IMO.

I watch Gray's Anatomy, although it's more of a soap opera than a decent drama. (yes medical people, I KNOW it's not medically accurate...but most TV isn't accurate about the field it portrays.)

I watched the pilot for a new show on USA last week. Suits...it's OK...but just OK. Another show in which you have to suspend knowledge and belief...and just accept the story line.

Even though they're not much like the 1% bikers I knew in my youth, Sons of Anarchy is pretty good. Once again, it's not too realistic...but still watchable.

i thought firefly is medocore at best. the wire seemed to be a cop show in the one episode i watched, so it was no interest to me.

I've been considering watching Deadwood. Is it worth watching even though it was cancelled and didn't get a real ending? I know it's a good show, but I don't want to be left pissed and unfulfilled after watching it.

Lost was a good watch, though IMO not quite as good as BSG.

Breaking Bad is fantastic. Probably a better show than BSG as a whole, but BSG is still my favorite.

Farscape definitely. Plow through the first season and then it takes off

Babylon 5 you have to watch if you haven't. You can ignore the last season if you want or you can watch it

Agree about Farscape; Ben Browder and Claudia Black are much better in these roles than they were in Stargate SG1, and the Scorpius character was one of the best villains I've ever seen in scifi.

The Babylon 5 story arc is fantastic. Even the disjointed first season episodes get tied into the story later on, so they're actually worth checking out. While the fifth season jumped the shark a bit, that's largely because they compressed the story arc into four seasons since they weren't sure if they'd get a fifth or not. Still, there are a few gems in there, and the final episode, Sleeping in Light, is pretty powerful.
