i really hate how quickly that happens... it seems like it used to take longer for pumpkins to start rotting. it only took our carved pumpkins a day and a half... it took my sculpted pumpkin about 2 and a half.

Mine was done in like 2-3 days. I was pretty bummed. I swear they lasted longer when I was a kid. Must be global warming!

My Homer Simpson pumpkin lasted 1 day, but I live in Phoenix so I'm sure the heat killed it. Kinda makes logical sense that cold preserves things. When I lived back in Idaho they lasted at least 4 days and sometimes a full week.

Spray with Clorox Clean-up to make them last a bit longer.

Yeah, I think it's a heat/dryness issue. It seems the major issues are desiccation/rot and the Arizona climate would surely speed up both of those.
