Me!Me!Me!Me!Me!

Not that I've ever had a fast car, but I've done 100 mph in my Accord. If I get the NOC job I'm trying for I'm thinkin' about getting a new(er) car. I'm rather torn between a nice AWD Audi and a 2K1 Mustang GT. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I'm not getting personal, but it's crap like this that makes insurance rates so high for the rest of us.

Fast is nice, but i prefer killer handling...

I don't own a car yet but i've burned enough Integ's and Stangs' on the windy hill roads by my house in the early A.M.'s... just a 93' Accord SE Auto too... fastest sharp turn i ever took with it was like 85mph...

Nice handling is great - low to the ground and stiff handling can make for some fun in the twisties :)

I've only had one good street race, right after I first got my beater Turbo Regal (TR) in decent driving shape.(rebuilt transmission, rebuilt brakes, tightened fasteners :disgust:, connected wires, other non-essential things. ;)

I was leaving a fellow TR owner's house late one Saturday night, ~11:30 PM. It was in Clearwater Florida, on Gulf Boulevard/HWY60 down by Clearwater High School. Nice 3 lane highway to Tampa.

I pulled into a 7-11 to get a soda, and when I pulled in I had to go around a new Ram-Air Firebird SLP, with Ferrari-symbol exhaust tips, (Monza?) and a pent-up teenage guy driving it. He's chatting with a couple on a suicycle, Kawasaki I think. I must admit I may have smirked, and may have been caught doing so. ;)

When I came out, The kid called me out. The guy on the bike wanted to race, I passed, and his girlfriend wasn't too happy with the proposal either.

We pulled out, and from a slow roll, punched it. Remember, I hadn't driven this car much, and not finally running good. He jumped out about 2-3 car lengths, while my turbo spooled up. I quickly closed on him and passed him, then we had to slow down, there was a red light ahead.

After loading up the torque converter, and trying to build some boost, the light finally turned green. This time, with the 1-2lbs of boost I had built up, he only pulled 1-2 cars in front of me initially, then I blew by him. :) Turbo whistling like crazy as I passed him.

There was one more light ahead, and when we pulled along side, he leaned out his window. "That thing have a supercharger or something?!?" I said "Yea, something like that." After scanning the horizon for police yet again, we took off. Same results. We were coming up on McMullen Booth Rd. When we rolled to a stop at the next light, his window was up. Hmmm.. Musta needed to turn on the A/C. :p

I love to have one. Man, I was driving today, just saw a Ferrari Modena 360 went by me. My jaw hit the floor.

I wished I was in that Ferrari.

I got to drive a trans am w/ the vette engine in it. God that car was nice.. only got it up to 65, but it got there *FAST* (owner was in the car with me. :p). Good thing it had traction control, as I'm no where near used to driving a fast car (was driving a PoS cavalier 4-banger at the time. ha.)

Oh well, I still lust after that car.. Back in the high school "holy crap I just got my liscense" days, we had my friends PoS camaro up to 120+ (spedo maxed out there). That was just downright scary in that rust bucket. *shudder*

Well I consider a Maxima fast..so yeah..I like having it..but since I'm only 17 and have a shoot-thru-the-roof insurance rate I prefer my 100hp Corolla till the thrill of 'i just got my license' wears away...although it doesn't seem to be wearing away anytime soon... =)

you guys are sick....

why is it that driving fast cars make you cool? I used to think that driving fast was cool untill I crashed two of my dad's cars. yup, that's right. And I was lucky that nobody died in any one of those accidents, even though very serious injuries were caused.

It's sad that it took me two different accidents for me to realize that it was wrong to race like stupid. The rush used to be unbelievable but I don't think it's worth someone getting hurt. And even though you think that you're not gonna get into an accident, because you know what you're doing, trust me - when you're driving fast, doesn't matter how much experience you have, nobody knows what to do when you're one seconds away from hitting something or someone.

I know, I'll probably get burnt for this, but it's just my opinion.

bigrash9,

Big difference between driving fast, and accelerating fast. I prefer the latter.

Big parking lot with a front wheel drive car and a couple of McDonalds dinner trays under the back tires. = a lot of fun.

I think most of us are talking about accelerating fast. I have only hit 100mph once..and that was on the highway and only for a few seconds. I never go above 50mph in the city..but I do love acceleration! I like to see how fast it takes me to get to a safe speed..

OK, so the car is not mine, but its fast...

My friend has a 81' Malibu. He and his dad race cars (like on a track) but they wanted a street car(yeah its barely legal anyway). So this things built like a muscle car under the hood. Its Chevy 350 thats hardly stock, I think he said it pulls about 450HP. That puts the quarter mile in the 11's.

Last friday we ran out to the local rat shack and took the Malibu. When we stopped at a light, a Camero pulled up next to us. He wanted to go... the light turned red and we went. All I can say is "HOLY SH!T" The camero never had a chance.

I sure do. It's takes a second close to AT OT as favorite things to kill time doing :) Street racing's an every weekend thing around here. NOw, before you guys go nuts, it happens on an old abandoned road (yes, a closed road) that's about 3 1/2 miles long straight as an arrow. Normally, it kicks off at about 12:30am and goes on until 3 or 4am. No one's ever come close to getting hurt. I would say 75% of the guys there are 30yrs old and up. Not many ricers at all thankfully. By the way, I drive a '98 Camaro Z28 6-speed with the all aluminum LS1 5.7L. A few mods already done (power adder mods), and a few to go. I find it more fun on Fri and Sat night on the street than going to the track on Sunday. Why? You can't go from a slow 15mph roll at the track to get traction. You also don't get VHT (traction compoubd) all over your car like at the track. Yes, the street racing scene is very alive and well around here. Is it stupid? Yea, probably so, and I am sure I will get tired of it eventually.

Back in my H.S. (late 80's) days, I had a 65 Mustang convertible with a 289hp in it.The engine was fully built. God, was that thing fast. All the guys at school had those new Mustang Gt's, and Camaro Z28's, and that thing would whip them all. I have driven big block corvettes that couldn't keep up with that car, at least not until ~130mph or so. Them old cars didn't have overdrive to help them to 150mph. But it was a rocket to 100mph.It wasn't much in the corners, though, but on the straights, it was a terror. I did have a bad experience with a GNX, which must have had nitrous on top of that turbo, cause she whipped the hell out of me. (and I mean badly!)And a GTO that managed to get away from me. (I later talked to the guy, and it was a supercharged 427 with a 4 link setup- no wonder.) I won all the rest. And to think I sold that car to pay for college........

I did have a "race" with some loudmouth kid in school that had a GT with some of those cheap add on aftermarket parts who was always bugging me about dragging. So one night we're at this stoplight, and he's revving and talking trash- but there is a cop right behind me. So, of course, I rev back, and when the light changes, he takes off like a bat out of hell.....the moron never saw the cops!! Shoud have had a camera.

I've had a couple of other fast cars, a 92 GT, a 85 Z28, a 84 Capri (460-4speed), and such. I gotta smile when I read these "I have a Celica" posts, as these poor guys have no idea what it feels like to actually be pinned to the seat. There is no substitute for cubic inches.
