Should'nt lifer status be awarded based on length of time (instead of soley on post count)

thanks for playing...come back next year.

I too have been coming to Anandtech for years and years, but never actually joined until 06 or so.
(my work usually kept me too busy and on the road enough that I didn't have time for forums and such.)
I'd visit, read up on whatever problem I had...then leave until the next time.

:Q Don Imus is that you?!

Bah...Imus was a pussy...he apologized under public pressure...he SHOULDA stood his ground for calling it like he saw it.

Lifer is less of a status label and more of a sentence. That's why we never drop soap when amongst one another.

that makes sense, but some of us like to lurk and read and make the occasional remark as opposed to hundreds or thousands of posts every month.

well to be fair, activity is what keeps a forum alive. Even though some new guy thats at 10k may not have been here as long, he's doing more to keep it alive than lurkers that post once a month.

you need both types for a well balanced forum

besides it'll be 2016 before I have enough posts to make lifer status

I had 260 posts in my first 4 years on the forum. I decided to start posting more and had my lifer status in about 7 months after that if I recall correctly. Custom title just a month or two after that.

Pick a topic to start learning about and then post in every thread about that topic in a helpful manner :p

Bollocks. The cake is a lie
Screen shots have been posted before.

lol... anyone can modify the source code of the Anandtech website to make it look like anything you want...

...or just photoshop it...

sez the loser who'll NEVER be allowed into the Lifer Forum...even with 30,000 posts.

Yup, we took a vote on the lifer forum. It was 1,870 to 1. I won't share who that one was.

hmmm... well... I guess he's got a better shot for at least an infamous custom title than most members ;)

What if AT had achievements to unlock? ;)

- Started at least 10 threads
- Posted a helpful response in 3 non off-topic forums
- Has been a member for X years
- Be declared the "winner" of a thread
etc.

:p

LOL, being a lifer doesn't mean shit

says the girl with the cool lifer status

seriously, no perks, and nothing to work towards after that. it's the last title you can obtain.

But I'm just curious why the status attributes are merited primarily by high post counts (some of us low post count old timers would like a cool status too :D).

it puzzles you when people have been here less than a year and have lifer status??
I do not know of anybody who has achieved Lifer mstatus in less than a year based solely on post count!

Now I do know of a few who have been granted 'Lifer" status based on their involment and willingneess to help the community as a whole!!

Maybe, I have logged into anandtech 95% of days since my join date, but at this rate will never achieve Lifer.

they can't measure lurking very well so thats how it goes. its true many people just read threads without posting and spend atleast as much time if not more than rapid posters.

What's the big deal about titles? I have been here for almost 6 years, lurked a while before that. I care more about the quality of the posts where i can learn something/entertain/enjoy rather than something like "i dunno what to eat for lunch/diner/etc." or craps like "i am 14, in high school and make 100K a year..but that girl in class smilled at me..what shall i do? help me!"
