Should weapons of mass murder be so easily available?

Weapons of mass murder like those use in the Aurora, Sandy Hook, and Arizona shooting can be purchased with ease over the internet, at gun sales, and in person private sales. No background check is needed and the killing machines can be had the same day.

Do you support doing more to prevent criminals from getting these weapons of mass death and destruction?
 
Do I support more legislation that targets mental illness? Yes
Do I support more legislation that targets the 2nd amendment? No
Do I support more legislation that targets background checks and the closing of the gun show loop hole? Yes
 
What about guns that hold dozens if not hundreds of rounds, and shoot tens of bullets per second, should these be banned.

Such guns aren't readily available and are traced and tracked, to get a pre-ban fully-auto weapon you must pay through the nose and jump through a lot of hoops. If you'd bother looking, you'd see that automatic weapons weren't used in any of these killings.

Your "shoot tens of bullets per second" must be something you pulled out of your ass. It has no basis in reality.

"Weapons of mass murder" is a made up term designed to incite. A semi auto rifle with a small caliber round is a poor candidate for such a moniker. You may argue against very large capacity magazines and their practicality for common uses for some weapons but they are a separate issue from the rifles (even shotguns) themselves.

How are the evil weapons you fear (apparently like the Bushmaster) any different than a Mini14? The Mini14 has been around for decades, same magazine fed, semi auto, same .223 round, looks pretty tame, has a reputation as an excellent varmint rifle (even deer in relatively open terrain), and gained immediate popularity with farmers upon its introduction.

Does buying accessories for it like: a flash hider, a bayonet lug, a collapsible stock, a bi-pod, a scope magically turn it into a weapon of mass murder? Do you need to change out the factory 10 round mags ( which I personally know can be changed out quite rapidly with minimal practice - used to own one) to 30 round ones to do it?

Have any answers to my questions?
 
Anyway, it is not the job of the State to protect people from the mentally ill. Your protection is your own responsibility.

There are non-mentally ill people who are just as dangerous and those who aren't mentally ill will probably be the most likely to blow up things and cause more damage because they possess more intelligence.

What about laser machine guns that fire lasers and hold thousands of miniature nuclear missiles also? Should they be banned?

33,000 vehicle deaths per year. I would argue most are preventable on account of improved driver training.

3500 accidental drownings per year, IIRC. certainly more than the number of people killed in mass shootings (88 if I'm not mistaken).

heart disease - #1 killer of americans

Cancer...#2 killer of Americans?

10,000+ deaths due to doctor error, preventable infection, etc while at the hospital.


So, why are you so eager to start stripping rights away from law-abiding citizens??

There is a theory out there that those that fear firearms the most are actually fearful that one day they may take up arms against others or even themselves. If they are not available to anyone, then their potential threat is neutralized.

Anyone in their right mind knows that what they desire, nobody being armed, is unattainable. Extrapolate from there.

And a semi-Auto would be more accurate and effective- ar15 or m16.

Really... its a question of whether or not civilians should have access to full blown modern military weapons- times have changed dramatically from the writing of your ol'constitution.
