Should there be an IQ requirement for self scan registers?

I am at Walmart and there are only 3 registers open and one of them is 14 items or less. The other two registers have 3 or more people waiting in line. I decide to go to the self scan but can immediately see that is a mistake. The first women is turning each item over a million times looking for the UPC. Another guy is just staring at the machine expecting it to do something. The next register has a mother and daughter team who are equally clueless with the light blinking. The last register is out of order.

Observing the people at the self scan register is like watching a group of trained monkeys trying to put square blocks in round holes. Is it really that hard? It takes me about 2 minutes to scan all my items. I just don't understand the difficulty level.

Do you think there should be an IQ requirement (sorry you are too stupid to use this register)? My thoughts are that they should eliminate them completely and hire more cashiers. Agree or disagree?

I wish. I haven't used an ATM in awhile, but those same people would try to operate that machine too. It's like you just dropped them into the pilot seat of a jet, and told them to land it. SO MANY BUTTONS!?
 
I have noticed that Walmart self serve registers generally suck. I notice what the OP stated many times. Strangely enough, the ones at Kroger tend to be just fine (even the stores with 8 or more). I tend to think it's the fact that Kroger has an employee with a wireless module that monitors the registers traveling among the registers resetting errors and helping out far more than the Walmart employees do.
 
Everyone who uses a self-scanner to pay for their goods should receive at least a 10% discount on their purchases.

Why the fuck should I do the work for them and not get paid for it?

I don't think people see it that way. I mainly go to self-scanner to save time. Time saved/me doing work is better than triple the time to wait in line/they do the work.

Walmart spent tons of money putting them into all their stores locally. Just a few months later they've disabled all the machines and won't let customers use them anymore.

One store I know of had 8 self checker machines installed and less than a month later they are disabled.

Great management.

This. Of course, the market see's it as a labor savings as well as a "customer perk" (in that the customer now has more lanes open even with only one cashier running them all).

Like I said, I see the same thing. Kroger always seem to have their scanners working properly. Maybe better training or better systems in general, but very rarely do Kroger's not work, and exponentially better than Walmart (not an anti-Walmart rant, just an observation in my local area).

It's the opposite here, the Walmart self serve registers seem to be accurate & fast. The Kroger ones ring up single scans as multiple items no matter how fast you scan them more often than Walmart. The correcting guy is always busy lol.


However anything is better than Albertson's. They'll put up stuff for sale in the flyer and not enter it into the computer so you have to go to customer service to get it fixed. Every single time. I wonder how much they rake in when people don't get stuff corrected.

Smart people don't give a shit about how the store looks or who's in it shopping. I go to Walmart and I save a ton of money over any other store. Not all people who shop there are strsight out of the trailer park Jr High drop outs. Some of us shop at the cheapest store. I like to put money in the bank, not give it away to a company.

Saving money is something smart people do right? I guess shopping at Target to buy the exact same shit and paying up to 2 times as much overall would somehow make me smarter than shopping at Walmart. Even though I'm dropping way more cash in the process.

Is that how it works??

odly i find price "mistakes" (never in my favor) more at true grocer stores like albertson's, Jewels, etc. then i do at Walmart.

when i got to a real crocery store (wich i have to at least once a month. walmart does not carry everything we need) its nearly every time i shop i see a mistake. Nearly every time they have a flayer out there are a few items that are not marked down in the computer.
 
Yes. I always, always assume that whoever is using one of these will take all day. if there is not one empty I'll stand in line behind a cashier.

Nice thing about Kroger is that if you find a price mistake, you can point it out and they will verify. Once verified, you will receive the difference back PLUS one of the same item for FREE. 🙂

I'm not saying make the IQ requirement steep. I mean maybe about 80 (average being 100)? Without pressing any buttons if you swipe an item across the scanner it will start. Also most items have the barcodes in the same place.

I would rather just walk in and out without having to deal with anyone so this doesn't bother me.

I agree there are certain people that should not breed especially if it is just to get extra money on their welfare check. I also think there should be laws against people breeding with a high chance of birth defects.

the ones around me have something like that. if under $3 its free. if more then $3 you get $3 off the item.

considering most items are under $3 you usually get it free.
