Problem is a lot of areas get to many plumbers, autotechs, etc.. then they can't find a job and many don;t want to move, or can't, to a area that needs them.

Look at the paper. There are hundreds if not more jobs. Yet unemployment is still in the high single digits. I moved from NC to VA for a job. If not I would not make the money I make now.

they just have to wait til the boomers retire :p

what makes you think they can be trained to do jobs if they can't even pass basic schooling?

Exactly. If a kid can't figure out how to do basic reading or math do you really think they're going to be able to do many of the trades you mentioned? You need to read and do basic math to succeed at almost every job out there.

All kids should be required to go to HS through the sophmore year:

After that there needs to be multiple paths:

College bound kids continue down the traditional HS path

non-college bound get trained in a tade or vocational discipline
