Should making Mother's Day cards in elementary school be banned?

Well when two men can procreate without any additional outside help or when two women can procreate without any additional outside help, I might consider it. But until then, forget the PC crap, I'm not buying it. Pull your head out of your keister.

After doing a google search, I found John Kerry's response to this very question:

"Actually, parents should simply be banned. After all, if it weren't for parents infecting children with their radical religious and political beliefs, the world would be far more harmonious.

Forced sterilization and federally controlled child conception is the only solution. Suitable parents would be selected and given permission to donate sperm and ova. Once the child was born, it would be immediately taken from its neutral surrogate and placed in a federal child development center where the child would grow to learn that the State is god and individual freedoms are a detriment to society."

Go you.

While we're at it, let's ban presidents day so we don't offend those who come from countries without presidents. Or Valentines day for those who don't believe in love. Memorial day for those without memories. Veteran's day for those who never fought in a war.

That's awesome. i would vote for anyone who said that, since they obviously had a sense of humour (Or were seriously demented)

After reading it, the first thing that came to mind was:
"Strangelove? What kind of name is Strangelove, anyway?"

Gee, that sure sounds like a GW quote to me.

They can just give the card to whichever one is the receiver in the relationship. Same idea on fathers' day with a 'my two moms' setup.

I believe that our district here is going to ban such activities, only because the new movement here is to devote %100 time to learning. Maybe not banning mothers day cards, but all "parties" have been banned here, like Valentines Day parties, halloween parties, thanksgiving parties, etc ...which I agree with. Those were just a waste of time.

As I've said in the past, everyone who has anything to do with the education system should be fired, those in charge exiled to the moon, people with common sense put in power, and employees rehired to far stricter standards.

The last line sound like something Bush would say or do... or has already done...

i think that is retarded. if they want to save time, they should do it by cutting out stupid activities from the actual curriculum (sp?) and teach things that are actually relevant and worthwhile. anyway, who pissed in your corn flakes? did you not have any fun as a kid? taking a break from school is what every kid wants, needs, and deserves after a while. i see no problem with having a party on halloween at school. no one is really paying attention anyway...well the people with books crammed up their butt are, but we all know they usually suck anyway...so whats the big deal?

They are cutting stupid activities out of the curriculum. Also, they can have parties, but it can't be on school time. It has to be an after school event.

Even in G/L relationships children who are adopted usually refer to their parents as their "dads" or "moms." I fail to see how mother's day or father's day fails to take that into consideration.

It all falls on the shoulders of the teacher. Good teachers can make learning fun and interesting. This is something we lack in America. Teachers don't get paid near enough for what they do, as a result you get a lower standard for hiring them.

Well, I agree *somewhat* but i'm part of the education system right now (IT), so I don't have much to do with the actual education of students. We have very very very low standards in our schools, and attitudes like the ones in this thread actually promote that. What is a child (post Kindergarten) learning from making a Mothers day card during class time? That is what early-childhood education is for (pre-school and in some cases kindergarten).
