I just got Samsung "245BW" LCD and didnt even have it two months and went back to my old trust Trinitron CRT's.

Im looking for an LCD that can do:

3ms response time(prefer 1ms)black to black.
25 Dot pitch or bettter
1900x1200 Res or higher

The Samsung was nothing but crap and more crap.

I work in VFX and Im very demanding.

Depends on how much your budget is, OLED is very new tech, and obviously carries a huge price premium. They're not being mass produced in great numbers, either, so you won't be able to find too many OLED panels out, and in large sizes.

I would say OLED is about 5 years from being introduced into the mass market, and maybe 10 years from prime time. I'm pulling numbers out of my ass, but the engineering of blue materials I don't think is quite up to snuff yet. Hell, sony only offers an 11" screen right now, although there are prototype 27" screens out there. I can't wait for them to get cheap though.

It's not that long. They're supposed to be coming for TVs in 2010 according to Samsung.

I dont think theres any LCD monitor rated under 5ms for black to black. Gray to Gray I think theres 1ms, theres tons of 2ms. What was wrong with the Samsung? In terms of everything you listed there its really close to what you require? Is there something else you are wanting?

The Samsung LCD just plain ol sucked compared to my Trinitron CRT.

Lots of fast moving objects in my work. It looked pixialated. Plus Im running a quadro GPU and it not the GPU because its nice and smooth on my CRT.

Did you run at native res?

Buying a TN isn't really great coming from a AG Sony

There isn't a LCD that you are going to be happy with. Color quality on all TN panels flat out sucks, speed on all the other types of panels suck(oh you will hear from people that they are really great, blah blah blah- they are not remotely close to a CRT though- my wife stole my FP2141 from me- that monitor still easily smokes every LCD I have seen).

The pixelated look may improve going with a higher quality non TN panel, but you are going to pay for it in the speed department. OLED unfortunately is still a long way off :(

unfortunately that window of opportunity is probably closed. its too bad b/c it seemed promising.. but the technology got too caught up in legal issues/patents etc that the product kept getting pushed back more and more...

You know...if you're going to compare an LCD next to a CRT you're going to have to spend a LOT of money to find one that doesn't suck.

If you care about image quality, and you have room on your desk, and you have a sweet trinitron, there's no reason to get an LCD. The saving space is the only thing LCDs really have going for them. If it weren't for LCDs there is no way that I could have a 22" widescreen + 19" 4:3 dual monitor setup on my desk...there wouldn't be room for anything BUT monitors.

If you are going to hold out for anything, hold out for LED backlit LCD. Better color and longer lasting.

Yes. Also, instead of flying to your next destination, wait for us to invent the warp engine. I hear its under 50 yrs away :D

led backlit LEDs run very hot.

there are a few out there by eizo and samsung and such and they actually need active cooling as the density of LEDs on such a huge screen (20" or more) is hotter than using ccfls apparently.

I wonder if they actually run hotter or if the heat is more concentrated into the little pinpoints. Hmmmm.

And also, is it possible to convert my laptop LCD to LED backlit? Would the CFL diffuser work?

That's nice stuff... A bit small and pricey for me, but it's a start. As much as I like my LCD's I recognize the drawbacks, and OLED looks like it pretty much answers them. Maybe one day we'll get true blacks and no motion blur on a flat, slim screen.

I've been looking at a few LCDs but honestly, every time I find one that appears decent something turns out wrong with it. The biggest problem these days is input lag.

I hope my 19" Sony CPD-G420 CRT lasts another 5-10 years, long enough for OLED to become a viable replacement.

CRT > anything else. I wish they could make em thinner so I could go back to CRT.

Plasma has a very low response time. I fine to be rather similar to my CRT's. Reflective as opposed to matte like LCD. I do miss 120hz, but I'll trade it for great color, high res. and a big screen.
