What's the default timings on your RAM? Nforce 2 boards are kind of anal about CAS3. I had some that ran 3 and had all kinds of problems. Changed to 2.5 and it was fine.

3-3-3-8 pc3200

Motherboard Chipset nForce2-SPP ; that is my chipset

Running toast cpu load program for 4 hrs 30 mins now while asleep. Program is going and going. What am I supposed to look for? The test does not come with help topics

Scaled 2500+ back down to stock speeds. Able to pass prime95 with ease. memtest86 shows 80 errors, 4 past. Should I rma my corsair xms or just chock it up as normal results and keep them?

Do you think I damaged my corsairs out of the box? I was oc'ing my cpu when I poped them in.

Memtest errors indicate instability or problems in your memory subsystem; I would be impressed if you managed to pass the Prime95 'Blend' torture test on a system that did not pass memtest86.

You mentioned above that you are overclocking a motherboard rated for only a 166Mhz FSB to a 200MhzFSB -- it's possible the memory controller just can't work stably at that speed. If you're getting errors even at 166Mhz (DDR333 speed), the RAM is likely bad. If you have two sticks, try one at a time to see if you can isolate which one the problem is on.

Oh. Yeah, that could cause problems.

You're at stock speeds now...are you sure your ram isn't running at 400 still (async)?

Okay, RMA'd the bad corsairs xms pc3200 ram and poped in the old samsung pc2700 ram. no memtest86 errors whatsoever now.

I'd say, if you can still play the games you want and they still look pretty good, then don't bother upgrading. The way I see it, speed is not gonna be going up very much more any time soon, until dual core comes out. CPU speed bumps will be marginal, GPU refreshes look pretty pathetic (the new X850 only receives a 20MHz core/40MHz memory speed bump, that's pretty damn sad), so all the companies will be competing on features, platform, and price, to drive sales, and that's good news for you. Also, considering your situation, you're gonna have to replace that 5900 sometime soon anyway, because the FX series takes about a 50-60% performance hit rendering in DX9 for HL2, and it can't render water correctly. As such, why not make it a PCIe video card, like the 6600GT (or the refresh in january). I'd say wait till after christmas, all the companies will reveal all their plans for the immediate future after the holiday buying season is over, so you can decide if anything worthwhile is coming down the pipe.

Thank you for your advice. Within the week I will change mobos to one cheap one at 50 usd that is rated 400 fsb so I can oc my 2500+ to 200x11 stablely. Then wait until next year for SLI mobos and to see what GPUs are coming up. This of course will involve A64 upgrade.

I have been for the past yr. I would like to squeeze out a 3200+ rating out of my 2500+ to avoid an A64 upgrade for the next 6 months at the very least.

Success!!!

The OCing of my 2500+ to 3200+ speeds at 200fsb X 11 =2.2Ghz, Vcore 1.8, Vdimm 2.7, is now a compete success!!! It passed the Prime95 tortue test at the 2048K custom setting. I did it by buying the 400 fsb rated Epox 8rda3I mobo, buying corsair xms pc3200 ram, setting ram settings to 2.5-3-3-8, upping Vcore to 1.8 and Vdimm to 2.7. Idle 42C and load at 50C. Thanks to all for their support and expertise.

you guys are great. I am so happy.
