Should I upgrade my X1900 XTX to a 7950?

Neither keep your x1900xtx , the G80 will be nice but not worth the cost - performance over a x1900xtx wait for the revisions of it.
Yeah, I would just keep the X1900XTX, as an upgrade to the 7950 isn't worth it, and the X1900XTX still has a lot of life left in it, performance wise. It should be able to play games for at least 2-3 years if not even more at 1024*768 with medium settings(that's as low as I'm willing to turn settings down) and by then, there'll be stuff out that'll be tons faster than a 7950 or a G80.
I'm hoping for a lot from G80/R600, I'll be disappointed if they don't do the 2x performance of the previous gen thing
Get crossfire if you want more performance which you do.
If you don't play Oblivion and don't mind compromising IQ then get 7950GX2 or Radeon X1950XTX.
Else go crossfire or stick with what you have.

Even if the G80/R600 are monsters, that is almost impossible to happen even at the most gpu limited resolutions.
I'd wait as well. Performance isn't that much better and in some games you might miss out on HDR +AA.

I'd wait. The ~$200 you'd have to fork over (assuming you get ~$350 for your XTX) isn't worth the small increase in performance you'd see IMO. Plus as others have mentioned, you'll miss out on some of the feature set the X1*** cards have to offer.
Why wouldnt they manage 2x performance? Every next gen has done it before, if they dont its because of the dx10 thing

Uh, they've only managed to do 2x performance at higher resolutions and AA settings. The R600/G80 will likely double X1900XT/7950 speeds while running at 2056x1536 with 4xAA and 8x AF. At the more commons 1280x1024 and 1680x1050, its performance will be closer to 10 to 25% faster, and thats thinking positively.
My personal reasons for skipping the R600/G80 generation is the rumored power draw. Its out of control and I'm not adding a second power supply to my system. Their refresh and successors to those cards should have lower power draw.
uhh since when??? maybe the 9700 Pro or the 6800/x800 series. But non of the others have not even close....
It wont be long for nVidia to come up with a better card than the 7950GX2 nor should it be too long for ATI to come up with a new card to match it or surpass it as well so value wise its better to wait in your case of the x1900XTX.
Why do you say that though? The x1900XTX has doubled performance over my 7800GTX in almost every situation at 1680x1050.
To give an example:
BF2 at 1680x1050 16xAF, 4xAA, all high quality, I'd get around 55fps maybe. On an XTX I'm pushing past 110+
In Oblivion it's hard to say because I'm adding AA and HDR, but it's definitely 2x as fast or more on minimum frames
In DOD-S, at 1680x1050, 4xAA, 16xAF, I got about 57fps with an oced GTX, I get 92fps with the XTX, and with a faster CPU I suspect it would be almost an exact doubling in this case as well
i must be doing something worng becuase i made that same upgrade and yea it looks better but noway is it 2x the performance as the 7800 i upgrded from. are you sure your getting thoes framerates? i mean on a heavy full 64 man karkand in the heat of battle? any tips for your settings you might share for optimun performance would be greatly appreciaterd since i was considering this same upgrade as the op but i have decided to wait for a conroe and get anotehr x1900 for crossfire.
Sure, I mean in a full Karkland battle I'll be hitting 80-90fps still except for occasional minimums below that. (actually karkland is a faster map for me because of what I assume to be lower view distance, I usually play Dalian or Dragon Valley)
What are the rest of your system specs?
I use high quality mipmaps, high quality textures, but also Cat AI on high becuase I didnt notice a visual difference without it.
You dont have to believe me though, check out benchmarks, especially those at legit reviews where they tend to use equal image quality settings.

The 1950XTX is coming soon then G80 then at the end of the year R600. You may have the highest end single slot solution for 1.5 months if you go get 7950GX2. It is not worth it right now to spend $600 on it if you already have 1900XTX. If you must have better rig now get crossfire 1900 for ~$450 and you will get better profromance then 7950GX2 for a cheaper price.

anyway OP really depends on you. do you play at resolutions that the x1900xtx can't handle ( but the 7950gx2 can) ? do you have cash to spare ? if so then go for it (or go cross-fire). other wise.........
