So apparently, because I choose not to tip someone for doing there job, and nothing more, I'm an assbag, and a piece of fecal matter?

Please explain to me why that is.

Bellhops are "doing their job" and any resonable person will tip them. When you eat at a sit down restruant the server is "doing their job" so you don't tip either of them?

I think most people would think of you as an asshat, but there's nothing wrong with being an asshat :)

Since this thread is apparently pizza-tip heavy, I will weigh in a bit on the subject. I have worked in the pizza biz for 10 years and just want to make a few comments.

While tipping is not a requirement, I feel it is a courtesy. If someone feels that a good service is provided (and yes, the delivery person is providing a service because people don't want to go out and get the food themselves) they should provide a tip and it doesn't have to be a big one. Anything will do.

Drivers where I work make minimum wage and no more. The not only deliver pizzas, but they do alot of work around the store when not delivering. The wage they earn covers this. Yes, delivering is part of their job, but they do go out of their way to get your food to you as quickly as they can by doing stuff in the store as well as knowing their way around town.

For those who don't tip, it is you perogative to do so. I wish that someday misfortune would find you in the position of having to deliver pizzas (or any type of food for that matter) to help with your finances and I am sure your position will change. Many of my employees worked this job as a 2nd job.

As far as picking up your food, it is cheaper. Common sence would tell you that if you that since the store wouldn't need to pay a driver to bring your food to you. I have had the priviledge of being tipped in the store when people came to pick up there food because I hustled and worked very hard and they liked what they saw and wanted to reward me. I have made over 40 pizzas by myself in an hour before (making them and doing the oven) numerous times. I had wonderful customers alot of which were reqular weekly visitors that I talked to each time they came to pick up thier food.

I gave my regular ups guy some money for the same reason, but also to get packages dropped off in the back when I'm not around.

If you'll never see him again, no big deal but if he shows up often definitely give him something and consider it an investment.

Ahhh!!! But you fail to realize that waiters and waitresses get paid a lesser salary because they make tips. I'm more than happy to tip them, because that's why they make usually less than half of the minimum wage. And again, I will be more than happy to tip more than the expected 15% if the service is above-standard. However, I'm not the kind of person to stiff someone a tip. I'm more happy complaining about the service and knowing something will get done than keeping food out of the mouths of a waitress.

As for bellhops and doormen... never had to deal with them. I guess we'll see should the situation arrive.

You tip the pizza guy because you are too lazy to go and get the pizza yourself. The pizza guy likes tips because he has to use his own vehicle, and has to deliver 5 or 6 pizzas to lazy people, whom half of which may tip him. He also doesn't get paid much, and has to put up with people like you!

Yes, and they know that this is going to happen when the APPLY for the job. And the argument about getting my pizza to me on time... if it's not there in the time frame that I'm given on the phone, and I mean, giving about 10-20 minutes of lee-way, I'll have no regrets about calling them up and complaining. I also have no problem with leaving a tip for OUTSTANDING service, which does not just include the delivery, but a friendly voice at the other end of the phone, an earlier delivery than expected and pizza that looks like it just rolled out of the oven. But NEVER will I tip for just standard performance.

I hate to sound like an ass to some of you people who don't understand that when you take a job, you should know the requirements and benefits of it before you start. If people wanna tip the pizza person, that's fine. But I'm not.

No one tips fast food workers for getting their burgers to them fast. Until that happens, I see no good reason to tip the pizza guy.

The only expception I make on this issue is if I have the asian guy from Papa John's that bows to me when he delievers the Pizza. He gets a tip everytime.

i will spell out a few things to you as a delivery driver.

1. whoever answers the phone is probably not the driver. it's just asinine if the performance of said person determines the tip.

2. drivers take the job because they expect tips. 95% of the people out there do tip and it makes up about 50% of my wage. if i have 3 orders in my car, one that goes to a good tipper, another to a decent tipper and then YOURS, you can bet i won't give a rats ass if your food ends up at your door 10-15 minutes late because you're such a cheapskate that you can't put out the extra 2 or 3 bucks.

3. this bullshit about 'outstanding service' and 'pizza that just rolled out of the oven'... first of all, nobody's going to give you 'outstanding service' for your cheap ass because you don't tip. second, you've probably never even seen pizza that just rolled out of the oven, because again, you're a cheap ass and the delivery guys hate your cheap ass and will take their sweet ass time getting to your cheap ass.

4. fast food workers are absolutely nothing like delivery drivers. mcdonald's employees do not drive your burgers and drinks out to your house using their own vehicle and gas and don't have to handle a cash transaction on the spot. they ring you in, move about 2 feet over to the warming tray to pick up your order and set it down on your tray. of course that's not worth a tip. cheap ass.

I deliver pizzas for papa johns..
I have some regulars who never tipped me because I guess they dont like it when they see me driving around in a 2002 Acura Type-S or they are just Jerks. I guess they don't realize I am paying for that car by working as a delivery boy .. well not totally true... I could pay it off by working at McDonalds but whatever.

Well those who didn't tip I would write their names down. This one kid would always order from me and never tipped and smile at me like it was funny and well I just got sick of it because I always brought his food 10 min after he made the call so I added some special toppings to his food and I shaked the damn bottle of pepsi till my arms couldn't shake anymore.

I delivered to this rich family and they ordered 5 pizzas and I didnt get a tip and on the way out guess where my key went.. on their brand new BMW X5.

I also delivered to a church 30 pizzas and the total was $32.83 and they gave me $40.00 I am walking out and the girl ask for $7 in change back. I was so pissed off I wait for a minute and I pull the stinking fire alarm and their little party was ruined.

This one couple invites me inside their house and the wife has the nerves to tell her husband to only give me a nickle and I throw it in his face and I drop the pizza and I am a big guy and he is trying to go at it with me and I push him out of my way and get back into my car and I do carry a knife in my pocket for emergency situations. Did my boss care? No and I dont really care if he cares or not.. I "accidently" dropped his pizza. Of course I had to bring them another pizza that they got for free and I just rang their doorbell and left it there with my special toppings. Why did I do this? RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC and they lived on the tip of the map where delivery guys go which is 15-20 minutes away. THAT IS FAR when you have 3 other orders in the car with you on a busy Friday night.

I also hate it when people do not understand that on a busy Friday/Saturday night your pizza might be late. Is it our fault? Hell NO. Traffic.. sometimes when we go to the store the pizzas have been sitting for 45min-1hour. It is not our fault. Blame management for not hiring more drivers and being cheap about it. We do the best we can driving like crazy people to get the pizzas there.

By the way I dont really care if I get fired and I hate a-holes so I will be one right back to them.

If they are getting charged the 2-3 dollars, then they are making BELOW minimum wage, because "gratuity" for pizza is not "required".
I think they should complain to the management rather than think that I'm going to give them money for that.

You didn't mention how often pizza guys get held up for $$$. Lets face it, anyone who doesn't tip the pizza driver is an ass. They use their own vehicle, and own gas, and any accident they have is covered under THEIR insurance, and sometimes insurance companies won't reimburse you because you were using your vehicle for business..which in some cases, they don't cover! They get paid a lousy "commision" fee for delivering pizzas, but come on..tip the guy. What if a waiter/waitress was making minimum wage? Would you not tip them???

I'm an ass and a loser?
obviously you have never been a pizza delivery guy. You think I am the only person who does that kind of stuff? You probably been spoiled by mommy and daddy all your life to know how hard it is to make a living on your own. I've worked for 5 different pizza companies and I can tell you I am being very nice to the customers.. the people who deliver pizza usually are uneducated men in their 40s and believe me they hate their life and they will do far worse than what I do.

As for special toppings use your imagination. If you don't tip someone who is busting their ass you will get special toppings.

Criminal? Deal with it. You want to piss off someone who is busting their ass to please you then I don't care if you get special toppings. As for me being a loser.. what makes you any better than me?

Same with restaurants. If you are an ass the cook is going to drop your steak on the floor. It happens all the time.
Be nice and people will be nice back.

i will spell out a few things to you as a delivery driver.

1. whoever answers the phone is probably not the driver. it's just asinine if the performance of said person determines the tip.

2. drivers take the job because they expect tips.

4. fast food workers are absolutely nothing like delivery drivers. mcdonald's employees do not drive your burgers and drinks out to your house using their own vehicle and gas and don't have to handle a cash transaction on the spot. they ring you in, move about 2 feet over to the warming tray to pick up your order and set it down on your tray. of course that's not worth a tip. cheap ass.

1) But if your food tastes like ass at a restaurant and causes you to become displeased, is your waiter/ress going to get a better tip? No amount of smiles and filled drinks can make up for the fact that if your food sucks... like, it's literally killing your appetite, then you just wasted money on something and you DID NOT get what you paid for.

2) See, you think I'M the ass, but you are the one saying that you don't give a rat's ass about my food because I won't give you money. You can shove it buddy! You better care about my food until the second it's in my hands if you want to EARN your tip. The problem here is that you think a tip is expected, but in actuality, a tip is something that must be EARNED. No way in hell am I giving someone extra unless they DO extra. I had a driver that grabbed my evening newspaper on his way up my driveway. Now THAT was service. Not only was he friendly, but he went BEYOND what was required to make sure I was satisfied and he gave me a REASON to give him a tip. What I've been trying to say is not that I don't tip pizza people, but that I don't tip without a reason. Simply driving to my house and bringing a box to my door is what you are supposed to do, no matter what.
All pizza drivers know that when they apply for a job, they will have to use their own car, their own gas, etc. If you don't like it, there are hundreds of other jobs out there. Don't try and use that a reason that I should give you money.

3) Then they can take their sweet ass time getting to my cheap ass and then they can be certain they aren't getting a tip. Then, they can also get a call from me asking why the hell my pizza was late. You say this as if it's not your problem if I get rude service when I place my order. You give me the impression that it's my problem if someone is rude to me, I should still pay you money for driving a pizza over to me. I'M MAKING IT YOUR PROBLEM. I am a customer, and I WANT the BEST service, and I'll be dammed if I'm going to give someone more money than I have to if I'm not even getting what I want.

4) I disagree. You clearly get crappy service at your local restaurant, and you should make every effort to get the service you want from them. Fast food is not an easy job. You are a scapegoat for poor service and gross food. Which means giving people what they want alone does not satisfy them. The second someone walks into a fast food restaurant, they are dissatisfied. They expect poor service. They expect that they will be dealing with a person who will just "ring you in, move about 2 feet over to the warming tray to pick up your order and set it down on your tray". You MUST go above and beyond to satisfy them. Don't think that the people there don't work hard.
Secondly, McDonalds is the low end of the fast-food stick. Half of what they do there is automated. A real restaurnt, fast food or not, will make your food fresh, no lousy warming trays. If you are going to use them as "the average" then we'll say that the average pizza person has an attitude like "Aimster".

obviously you have never been a pizza delivery guy.

It doesn't happen all the time, you are just a d!ck with a poor outlook.

You've probably worked for 5 pizza companies because you got fired from them for obvious reasons.

I hardly consider "Busting their ass" doing what they were hired to do.

What makes us better than you? A word called "decency", and it's friend "ethics".

It's cool how you have rationalized keying someone's car and pulling a fire alarm in a church. I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

It doesn't happen all the time? Maybe if you are new to the job, but it does happen all the time.
You try driving 15 minutes to give someone a pizza knowing they won't tip you and then you have to drive all the way back because you have another 3 orders in the back of your car and you know the second you walk into the store you will have another 5 orders that are already 30minutes late.

As for me getting fired, lol no. The managers have all been drivers and they do not care about the customers. They care about their food cost and how much of a bonus they will get. The only customers they care about are the ones who order in bulk (schools, businesses, etc).

If you know someone is not going to tip you and you are trying to make money I bet you then you will do something to the pizza. You might not.... I didnt do anything for the longest time until I learned that there are people out there like you. If you honestly think your pizza does not have extra toppings because people have 'ethics" then enjoy the pizza or the restaurant you occasionaly go to that you don't tip.

WOW..

I managed a Domino's Pizza for almost 5 years and you would have been fired if you worked for me. Of course there were places that we went that they never gave the driver a tip but then there were some places the driver would go and get an "above average" tip and it would make up for them getting nothing the run before.

As far as you managers, they have a serious problem. I lead by example. When I drove, I literally ran to and from my car on deliveries as well as brought people their papers. Other drivers made comments, but I made better money because of it. When I got into management, the same hustle applied. The quicker pizzas got out, the happier customers are the more likely they are to order from you again. When you don't care about the customer then you have a store full of people like you who don't care about the customers. Just because someone doesn't tip does not give you the right to put something "extra" on their pizza.
