should i soak my turkey in beer?

i've never managed to catch beer on fire...

might be ok... never soaked anything in beer before, just poured it on when the ribeyes were grillin

No, but I've heard of some people baking their turkey to completely cook the insides, and fry'ing the turkey up. Then, while on the pan, they'll pour on some alcohol for that flaming effect right before the turkey is carved.

<== monkey dance

I think soaking a turkey in beer is a wonderful idea. They could use the buzz when they see that axe commin at em'

yes, do it. Ad some spices, lemon juice, some wine and let it marinate for a day or two. We have 1 20+lb turkey sitting with spices, oranges, lemons, beer and wine and one 17lb one with the same. Both turkeys will get deep fried come Thursday. Turkey comes out very moist and juicy. It'll also get injected with a spice/liquid mixture tomorrow in preparation for Thursday.

you don't need to precook a fried turkey... heck, it doesn't take very long (3 min/lb + 5 min at the end)

A dead turkey might turn out good soaked in beer.

A live turkey would just get drunk, go berserk and ruin Thanksgiving........dont ask how I know.

Have anyone ever heard of cooking a turkey vertically and putting a can of beer inside the turkey. Someone told me that the beer will steam and end up flavoring the turkey that way. I think if you soaked a turkey in beer, it'd be a waste unless you left it there for a few days to really absorb the flavor.... If you're going to soak it in something, soak it in some nice cheap whiskey...you might actually taste a difference. 😀

Done that with chicken, and the result is surprisingly juicy and tender meat. I'm not sure I could really detect the beer flavor, but that's because the only thing we had in cans was lite beer (which was why we were trying to get rid of it by using it for cooking).
