<< At any rate, don't allow crime to go on unreported. Especially crime with a victim like theft, assualt, murder, vandalism, etc. Victimless crimes are another story, but this is clearly theft and the victim is not only the software companies, but EVERY consumer as well. >>

Hey, AmusedOne, something we agree on!

<< just email him and tell him to stop what he's doing. i know he's stealing and everything, but ruin his entire life over some software? >>

He is an adult. He should know better than selling some stolen property. He has the right as well as the responsibility of adults.

Let the FBI agent buy from him and build a solid evidence then busted 😀 😀 😀 😀.

Amazing, huh?

<< Rock him. I don't mind people pirating software that much compared to people who _sell_ pirated software. If you get it for free, distribute it for free too. It's like selling promo CDs. >>

i pretty much agree with this

if he was giving it away, i would mind my own busyness

but selling it isn't cool

use linux 😛

bingo, selling software illegally isn't something a normal adult does. a kid might try it in middle school or something, but this is entirely different. he's an adult and should know better. apparently he hasn't learned %@# from college. let alone ethics. he deserves what he gets.

<< There's a guy here on campus that's selling bootleg software.
AutoCAD 2002 for $20
Matlab 6 release 12 for $30
Norton Antivirus 2002 $20
Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 platinum $30
Windows XP Professional $30
Office XP Professional $30

I know these are bootleg because I emailed him a while back asking about it.
What do you guys think I should do?

Ignore him and move on. Why get yourself involved in something that doesn't hurt anyone? He is doing a favor to college students that don't have any money to buy the legit version. It's not like billion dollar corporations give a crap about you anyways.

> Why get yourself involved in something that doesn't hurt anyone?

This hurts me PERSONALLY. The person is stealing money from ME. I know thats a hard concept to grasp.

> He is doing a favor to college students

How would you feel if he was STEALING your work? Would you be so gracious then?

Bill

Stay away from this person. He is on a course of his own choosing, and will eventually get caught, (or may have a close call and quit, if he's lucky). You don't need to dirty your hands.

There will be other times in your life where you won't have to ask anyone this type of question. It will be instantly obvious, you'll just react, and do some good in the world ( and for yourself). This one ain't it. 😉 But thanks for the talk.

don't even bother doing anything. karma will eventually catch up to him. if anything, be a nice guy and let him now that "people are watching him". maybe he'll clean himself up, and stop being such a warez junkie. =)

AHHH... The sweet sounds of apathy~!

Oh and they guy never did repond to my email. So I guess he isn't selling anymore😀

I am glad to see people are bothered by this guy is selling pirated software yet the number who think it would be OK if he were GIVING it away is sad.

How sad it must be to be so short sighted that one cannot understand how theft of intellectual property hurts EVERYONE.

<< He is doing a favor to college students that don't have any money to buy the legit version. It's not like billion dollar corporations give a crap about you anyways. >>

Typical myopic class envy. PEOPLE, yes, REAL PEOPLE work at and run those evil "billion dollar corporations" that produce the software we enjoy.

Theft is theft, and it is no less theft if you steal from the rich than if you steal from the poor. When you start making morality relative, then it becomes relative for everything. Next I can justify killing you because you're a worthless thief.

I agree. Both instances don't fly.

i'm gonna have to agree as well. and add this point. free software is free for a reason. while software that you pay for isn't free for other reasons. either way, it's not right to steal other peoples intellectual property.

I changed my mind a bit (though I do think the majority of you are serious hard asses) I think an anonymous warning would be in order. I don't think he should be charging for the product beyond cost to make the cd's. I severely doubt that by stopping this one guy or a thousand guys like him, that you would change anything in how the products are priced. Even if everyone connected to this forum stopped using and distibuting warez ,which would be a mighty feat in itself. You could not change the pricing of those products by a penny. The companies automatically assume they are going to get pirated so much and add that to the cost. As a low income consumer I fail to have any sympathy for big business.

> I don't think he should be charging for the product beyond cost to make the cd's.

Brilliant. So now it's ok to steal, as long as he's not making money on the deal? He's a thief, pure and simple.

Bill

Remember that woman who was killed by a man who was pissed because she cut him off? He threw her over a bridge.
There were hundreds of people watching by the time he did that, because he was beating her up first and traffic in both directions was stopped.
Nobody did anything because they were sure "someone else" would take care of it.
