Theft is theft. Do what your conscience tells you to do. If you'd turn him in for ripping off one of your friends, turn him in for this. No one has a "right" to another person's intellectual property.

just email him and tell him to stop what he's doing. i know he's stealing and everything, but ruin his entire life over some software? cause that's what this will do, COMPLETELY *DESTROY* the guys life, which i dont think is really necessary in this case(he's just young and stupid).just scare him off with an email or a note on his door that says "If you dont stop pirating software, I will report you to the FBI and the school board". hehe i think that would make me stop and pretty much anyone that cares about their life and i seriously doubt he really wants to go to jail or be kicked out of school...etc.....

If I was hit up for protection, I would refuse to pay and report it. If my shop was firebombed or some other stupid thing I'd simply collect my insurance pack up and leave. WHY people stay in a place that allows this to go on is beyond me. If people started closing up shop and leaving in droves, the police would actually stop this crap.

These idiots count on fear. If no one responded to them, they'd be screwed.

Yet another reason I prefer small and medium sized cities to large ones.

Crap like this only happens when you disarm the general population and pussify them beyond all reason. Try this kind of crap in GA, SC or NC and you'll see a lot of dead Italians laying in the streets.

Being able to buy pirated software for cheap is why prices are so high. Anything that I pirate and use for more than a week, I go out and buy. Be a good dude and rat him out. It's the American way. PLEA-BARGAIN!!

Yes, we are. 🙂

At any rate, don't allow crime to go on unreported. Especially crime with a victim like theft, assualt, murder, vandalism, etc. Victimless crimes are another story, but this is clearly theft and the victim is not only the software companies, but EVERY consumer as well.

The downfall of this country is the sense of ENTITLEMENT people have to other people's property.
