Should i PRE-ORDER from ATI?

So i've been scraping my pennies together to get one of these deals from ATI. The question is do i want to risk waiting for ati to send me a RADEON® X800 XT PLATINUM EDITION AGP 256MB - and preorder it, or should i just go with the RADEON® X800 PRO AGP 256MB - which they have in stock?
Anyone have any experience pre-ordering from ATI? How long might it take them to get me one?

I wouldn't get an X800Pro under any circumstances.

Additionally, i would also wait until the 7800GT comes out or the R5xx series.

So i can get something more powerful for $200? Not $240 or $220 but for $200?

Those are around 250 and i don't have that much.

Save money in the time you would be waiting if you were to "preorder" one.

yeah you'll most likely be waiting a long time for it because it doesn't seem like they're gonna let go of those X800XT's until the new R520's are produced, and by then, you could probably have saved enought to get one.

As is the XT... as is the 6800GT need i go on.

THe Pro has a HORRIBLE Price/Performance Ratio. Get the XL or the GT. Or (if you plan on keeping this card for only a year or 2) then the X800XTPE, any longer and the GT will probably be the better option.

all cards today have a horrible price/performance ratio. remember when a $150 4200 was 10% slower than a $300 4600? compared the the xl, the pro has a bad price/performance ratio.

just remember, waiting is always good. i don't suggest the pro because for like $30 you can have a much better performing xt.

The X800 Pro is priced really poorly, if it was in the 150 range, it'd be the card to get though.

Ok... you are comparing cards from 4 years ago with their price/performance to the cards of today... Way to make a convincing argument.

That deal is quite awesome but no telling when it will ship to your house. Maybe it will arrive at your house sometime near Christmas.

Last I heard, the waiting list was September or something like that. The demand is high but the supply seems to be sparse, if not non-existent.

The pro is a GREAT card.

It's a step above the 6600gt, 6800NU, and x800P.

If you can find it for a good price, get it.

The XL is usually only a little more though.

NO one said it wasn't. It is HORRIBLE price performance wise. THe XL is right above it, as well as the GT, and they are both cheaper a lot of the time.

Wait a couple days to see if nvidia releases their 7600 or similar for $200.

And for your information, you MIGHT be able to find a 6800gt for around $200 if you're extremely lucky.

But since you're running on AGP, your best buy for $200 is a 6800 vanilla. Why?

1. Great card (as good as x800)
2. good chance to unlock pipelines on it to really improve it (almost 6800gt)
3. Has shader model 3.

Much better buy than the x800.

i love proving people wrong :). the x800 is better for pci e (much cheaper) and the 6800 is better for agp (much cheaper). the x800 gets more frames in most games than a 6800.

for the 1032093420349th time, shader model 3 means nothing. frames count.

it really depends on what games you play on...doom3 would favor 6800....farcry and half-life2 would favor x800...IMO the x800pro is better than the 6800. If i were you, i would save up for a month or two and the prices would drop fast, then get the XL

Shoot, i'd wait a month or so and save some extra cash to buy ATI's next gen card. That's if its really good that is.
