Sarah had hers done. I wasn't sure what I thought of it until I saw it. It's very attractive. But, like others have said, it only works if the girl has the stomach for it. Sarah takes very good care of herself, so it works quite well on her.

But it's not for everybody.

this is a spectacular discussion, i have no comments, except I'm willing to accept any "body mods"(such a cold term) if the person did them, because they wanted them; except the pierced toe... those are EVIL

Too many people are getting tattoos and piercings in some misguided "fashion" thinking.

Tribal tattoos are sooooooo played out AND retarded. It's like some folks want to show that they're members in the Suburban Whitey Lemming Tribe.

A new trend I've noticed is stretching the earlobes to ridiculous extremes, like they saw it in National Geographic and said, "Ooooooh...I want a TWO INCH plastic disc in my ear." Saw a guy at the video store who was only at 1/2", but he'll get there.

These are like 20-year-olds and while they may be "adults" and able to make foolish choices, WTF is gonna happen when they're 30 and want to not work at a record store/bondage shop/car wash anymore? Can't wait to see these mooks try to get a mortgage, get into a co-op apartment or get a decent job in corporate America.

A navel ring is minor compared to some on the body mutilation I've seen, so knock yourself out if your identity is so tied up in this sort of thing.

(Note: I don't have any tats or piercings and I don't wear any jewelry, so factor that in if you wish. Wristwatch is a $16 Timex Ironman Indiglo. So there.)

only do it if you want it, don't get it based on what other people may think. if you're simply getting it because some guy says that they're sexy, then you aren't getting it for the right reasons.

I love my belly button piercing. But like toph said - don't do it because it's fashionable or because you might think that guys find it attractive. Do it because you want to do it.

And here's my lecture for today (again ;)):

DO NOT USE ANTIBIOTIC OINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :|
And DO NOT TOUCH THE PIERCING!!!! Only touch it when you clean it. The belly button takes the longest to heal of pretty much all the piercings. So make sure you keep it clean and don't mess with it otherwise. Otherwise you'll get it infected, which is, trust me, not much fun at all.

Let me know how it went :)

I'm gonna once again add to what toolgirl said...

You will have to clean it with antibacterial soap three times a day for six months or until it heals. It normally takes 6 months to a year for it to heal.

The worst thing you can do is touch it. Mine didn't get infected but it was six months before it was healed, and my friends took nine months. Don't get it done in the middle of summer when you are going to be swimming. I got mine done three days before I went to the beach, and it was still red (although the piercing didn't hurt, and it didn't hurt later either). When I went swimming, each time I got out of the pool, I had to clean it with antibacterial soap, and spray water through the navel hole (as best as I could) to get it clean inside (because you can't remove the ring to clean it). Do rotate the ring a little bit each day when you clean it, so the inside gets cleaned too. Make sure you wash your hands before you touch it.

But definately get it for yourself! And don't get scared when you see the needle they use or the table you lay on. Make sure all of the equipment they use is in sterile unopened packs.

I don't get "bad" looks from people when they see it. Most people are like "didn't that hurt?" Nope, I say. I love it. I have a flat tummy and my naval ring helps show that off. I wouldn't get rid of it! My hubby loves it too. I've had it for 5 years this spring.

I may change the ring this summer (first time) and get something else. Don't know though. I'm kinda attached to my naval ring. :D

If you want to stay away from antibiotic anything (soaps/creams/etc) as some shops recommend, you could just use regular mild liquid soap (softsoap is great...many body washes that aren't overly perfumed work too) and/or products such as Ear Care, which are antiseptic solutions sold mainly for the care of pierced ears, but can work on other piercings as well. Warm salt-water soaks can be beneficial as well.

As a side note (and preventative measure), make sure that the shop you're going to is qualified to do good piercings..you can often ask to see a portfolio of photos of other piercings somebody has done. Just because you're "only" getting a navel piercing doesn't mean you should have to deal with substandard work. A clean shop and a skilled piercer will help your healing immensely, as well as give you someone to call if you aren't sure about how your piercing is healing.

Ohyeah...as far as tribal tatts go, defref...I've seen many tribals (and barbed wires) that are obviously people trying to follow a trend, but I've also seen many tribals/other "trendy" tattoos that have been beautiful expressions of self-identity. Tribal shouldn't automatically say "sheep" because many of the designs were made specifically for one person and may have a much deeper meaning than you can see at first glance. Yes, they're overdone in many areas, but that shouldn't devalue a person who gets their tribal art for personal reasons (ethnic identity, a hidden design, a piece of artwork they drew for themselves, etc).

[edit]Personally, I have a celtic-styled tattoo that I created the art for myself and that incorporates "Ladi" hidden on the inside of my arm. I'm chinese, but irish culture has interested me for most of my life, and I happen to like the eternal-cord type of symbolism most celtic knots have. Irishness may be a trendy "thing," but that doesn't mean it influenced what I chose to have put on my body. And yes, my next tattoo (and possibly the one after that) will be tribally influenced, as well as incorporate celtic knot elements. The one after that will be almost entirely tribal. Sense a trend? ;)[/edit]

My g/f wants to get one and when I heard that I was like :Q :D  :)

You've gotta have a nice flat stomach though...if you don't then you might not be able to see the piercing anyway

I'm a male, and I don't like chicks with any kind of body peircing or tatoo.
On the other hand, I'm 27 years old. What would I know about young turks nowadays.

I'm 17. I'm not that much in to piercing as well. I wouldn't care if the girl is hot though (as long as she's not full of silver bells hanging on to every part of her body) :)

I think that is the only good looking body piercing...if the person has the right stomach for it (read: tight tummy ;)) and isn't all pierced all over the rest of her body- then yes, it is attractive.

I'm a 22 year old guy... I think its _NOT_ attractive. I don't like it at all. Pierce your ears once and leave it at that.

"Tribal tattoos are retarded" Yes! but 4 or 5 years ago they were Hot Hot Hot . What do think the belly button ring will be in 4 or 5 years. Things that make you go HUUUUUMMM!
Please don't do it. You are beautiful the way you are. I and you should not care if your tummy is flat or has rolls. Live life and be happy, (having a ring in your belly or tattoo is not going to make you happy). Work from the inside. Take care and please don't do it .

Enjoy Flanders out!
