You are paranoid and fearful. Please, please do not buy a gun. You will kill and innocent person or become a statistic.
He either gets his ass kicked and becomes a stat, or he fights for freedom like a true patriot.

Get a gun, don't be afraid to use it, but don't be quick to use it.

yea im in the middle of a heated battle when my life is being threaten, do i?
a) worry about some dude getting hurt or worst off killed
b) shoot them in the leg to stop the fool from coming after me with a knife and THEN call the cops
c) shoot dude's head and then worry about my life cuz now it's in the hands of the court.

gun is last resort and ill have one just to protect myself.

You shoot at someone who you think is a threat to you, and may be, but the round passes through him and lodges in some kids brain.

That scenario happens enough.

You need to figure out how to defend yourself without a gun, or avoid situations where you would truly need one.

You really have no idea what you are getting into.

I don't know about that, Poc. Talking sometimes does work.

If ever you can get out of a situation without using violence, you should probably do it. The exception is when the only non-violent way will encourage future bullying (such as paying them off or giving into a demand).

It's not easy living the thug life, but if you think you really have to do it, you should do it.

Sounds like you need a shotgun way more than a handgun. THis 'shooting for the leg in close quarters in my house in the dark' sounds fscking stupid, and I don't even own nor fire them except for several years back.

For defense, I would stick to a shotgun too. An expensive handgun is cool, but it takes a lot of time to train so you can hit what you're shooting at.

Not really. If you can play Counter-Strike, your hands are steady enough to use a handgun.

A shotgun would probably strike more fear into them though. Get shot by a handgun and you can make it. Get shot by a shotgun and you're in big trouble.

For $100, I will help organize a crew for you. But you will also have to go on missions with them bi-weekly.

it's actually not. just a bunch of morons who do nothing all day but smoke weed and hang on the corner. they think they all that cuz everyone is scared of them. they're all losers who need to get shot rather than sit on the corner and hustle.

The money you spend on a gun could go towards a deposit on an apartment in another neighborhood. I would move now.

Well it's sort of true. I've shot a handgun before and I was pretty good at it. My hands a little too shaky to use 1 hand, but with 2 I can aim fairly accurately.

You're an idiot for even equating a video game to the real thing. I have only fired compressed air pistols (mainly a pellet gun), and even that is nothing like a video game.

When you use 1 hand you have to hop to get the correct aim.

No, they took that out in like 1.1 or 1.2 I think. Now, jumping totally messes up your aim.

I've never tried jumping and shooting in real life... I'd probably get laughed at by everybody. See some idiot jumping and shooting a handgun with 1 hand :D

Be sure to circle strafe for added accuracy.

A shotgun is about the best home defense you can buy. You can score them for around 100, 150 at Wal Mart. I myself prefer a pistol for portability, but you need to learn how to shoot it. A shotty you can just point in the general direction and maybe still take one out. A pistol is hit or miss.
I just picked up a hand cannon of a pistol for 110 bucks. Gonna be about 140 after shipping and transfer fees.

did you get a hi-point?

If you shoot someone in the leg, that is premeditated. Shoot to kill. if you are scared enough to shoot, then you have a better chance of getting throu it if you kill them. Shooting a person is not going to stop them unless 1 of 3 things happen. You hit them in the Central Nervous System, being brain and spinal cord, the heart, or they succumb to shock of being shot. Many people have been shot in non-vital areas, and they have said that they did not even know they had been shot because of adrenaline. Also in times like that a lot of peoples bodies pain receptors stop working.

What you need to do is take martila arts classes and learn to defend yourself this way.

If the police do nothing, move up the chain. Do you have a county sheriff or marshal? If not, go to the FBI and report that the local law enforcement is on the take and you have seen it happen. The police are not the only recourse.

Unless you have training that specifically deals with defense situations, carrying a handgun can be very much like teaching a 16 year old to drive by tossing them the keys to an F1 car.

Get that training THEN worry about a gun.

Well said. If you just buy a gun, you WILL be tempted to use it. It is just a natural instinct when you are in danger. But please, if you are looking to defend yourself at home, buy a shotgun. The weapon alone should scare them, without it needing to be fired.

The suggestion above was a good one. Get a shotgun instead of a handgun if you must. Weapons are far more likely to be used on the owner! Its a national crime prevention task force statistic. Plus the fact that if word gets out that you have one, people will break into your house just to steal it. Handguns are a more attractive target (by far) than a car is. Besides, where will it be when you need to use it! In the closet or down under the bed where your kids can accidentally discharge it, or one of your friends kids, or one of your neighbors kids, or the kid of that person you never expected would drop by to visit, or your smart kids that know to leave it alone, however, they forget to tell their friends that are staying over anything important about the gun except that you have one and how cool it is.

My vote is to get 4 or 5 containers of law enforcement grade Capstun spray and give a small keychain one to your loved ones and teach them how to carry it in a ready position going to and from the car. Keep two in your car. One in the glove box and one in the trunk. They keep fine as long as they are out of direct sunlight, however they will be there if you have to have it. Also, keep a Capstun along side the mattress of your bed. If anyone besides you has an accident with it, they can recover... eventually.

More importantly teach your family how to be alert and noncomplacent.. and reinforce the fact that they should never, never let anyone remove them from the scene of a confrontation. If they get surprised the best thing to do is just to fall on the ground and scream. Its unlikely even for a crack head that they would try to pick them up and carry them off. If they shoot you, they shoot you but its far less likely than if the bad guy gets anyone to leave with them.

If they threaten your kids... the same goes. Fall on the ground and scream and hold on to them or If your kid buckled in the car and they want you to get in.. Fall on the ground and scream. Dude its lame, but it works. Your no good to anyone dead... and anyone that leaves by force is more often than not already dead. This is where that handgun you were thinking about buying gets used on you instead of the bad guy.
