I'd gladly turn in my man card to have a guarantee that I would live. Last time I checked, being a man did not require the desire to get in a confrontation that could potentially get very violent.

I'm not going to be a hero if I had a kid to raise. The only alternative to the use of deadly force is deadly force, which is more often than not, is out of reach for you since your on the recieving end of a gun or knife. My life is important, I'm not going to get killed when I know the best odds for getting out an unfair situation alive. This is the part where falling down on the ground and screaming comes in. It's unexpected and it works. They expect you to get in the car or to fight back, so they are ready to shoot you. Usually, they are so confused by your lunacy that they just run off.

However, with proper cause, I've been instructed to shoot for center mass with a military issue 9mm or m16. You don't shoot to mame. That is crap. Deadly force is deadly force, not gimp the guy up force.

Ok, I can agree its lame. I suppose in VERY limited conditions I would try that.......
And yes, always shoot center mass. ALWAYS. Its the easier to-hit location, its also the best area to halt an attacker. And hopefully kill him. Remember, a wounded attacker has went from a threat to a lawsuit. If you shoot, shoot to kill.
unless their in kevlar, then shoot for the pelvic region. The natural bowl structure of the pelvis should ricochet bullets up into the chest cavity, thereby bypassing the Kevlar. You need a pretty stout round though to penetrate the pelvis, ricochet and have enough oomph to reach into the chest cavity.
