Should I even be considering a 250cc bike?

jesus i looked at mine.. 0-60 in 3.8, 1/4 mile in 12.2

while i do some throttle-happy acceleration getting up to highway speeds, i never lift the front end off the ground (that would scare the living shit out of me).

i'd love to hit a track sometime to explore my limits (cause i won't get to the bike's any time soon!), but there aren't any nearby

I do know that I am able to get into the corners much better on my ZX6R compared to my 650R.

Some people can scrape the pegs on a 250 I'm sure. Maybe it's the suspension, maybe the tires, or maybe the more forward sitting position but cornering is a lot more natural on the 600 compared to the 650.

Maybe it's not the norm, but it's completely possible to get on a super sport wearing helmet and leather instead of flip-flops and shorts. Hit the local canyons without doing 150MPH wheelie down the interstate on the way. Have a fun time riding within your limits and come home safe.

No, no chicken strips on my bike. I don't have any trouble keeping up with all but the fastest guys on super sports in the local mountains either. I just ride my ride and don't worry about what the other guy is doing. I do like to have fun though.

Raise your hand if you ride a motorcycle to be safe... If you all practiced as much safety BS as you preach none of you would even be on a bike to begin with. (I highly doubt half of you are anyway outside your wild forum imaginations.)

Life is about mitigating risks, and motorcycling is no different.

A smart rider will ride as safe as possible, limiting his/her exposure to risk. This includes wearing proper gear, taking proper training, and selecting the proper bike for their skill level.

The 650 is worlds better than a 600, but I'd still recommend a Ninja 500 if you can find one and you're dead set against a 250.

yeah the I2's just don't make the power in the mid and top that the I4's tend too.(nor are they engineered to do that). the ergos on the 650 are much more standard than sport too

I rode a friends and it was pretty friendly, but after riding newer liter bikes and 600ss's its hard to guage how 'fast' the 'slower' bikes are.


and I agree, plus parts for the 500 are going to be way cheaper than the 650r due its newness(2-3 model years old max) vs about 20


I will chime in against maduece as well. just because bikes are dangerous is no reason to ride in sunglasses shorts and flipflops, and ride around doing 3rd gear wheelies.
