Should I deduct "delivery charge" from the tip?

I just ordered some delivery and there's a small delivery charge. I plan on just deducting this from the tip. Is that typical practice?

And yeah, wrong forum 😉

yeah, wouldnt want to burn a calorie by walking a little farther from a different spot.

Considering that the money for the delivery charge does not go towards the driver in most cases - don't deduct it.

<--delivery driver

That would be a switch, getting moved to OT.

Last I asked about the 1.50 delivery fee papa johns charged the store kept something like half of it and the driver got the other half.

Depends - my franchise only charges a buck for delivery. The driver gets compensated for their mileage at the end of the might, but that money does not go directly to them.

That said, you should be tipping more than that.

lol - 😛 I get tipped plenty, thank you very much 😉

My franchise charges a buck too, and often customers tip less thinking that dollar goes to me. It doesn't.

When tipping, there are things you need to know. Anything less than $2 isn't worth it, and anything less than $1 is just rude. More is always better, but not expected, $2-$3 is about right for a normal pizza order. If you are ordering more than 2 pizzas, obviously tip more. I'd say $2 per pizza is good.

Not tipping is like driving without insurance. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford delivery.

It is not significantly harder for you to deliver 5 pizzas to one location as opposed to 1. Why should you get $10 for the 5-pizza order when it does not require 5x the work?

Anyway, I usually throw in between $2-3. More if there are extenuating circumstances like it came really quick, the weather is awful, or it's a holiday/major sporting event.

I don't order from places that have a delivery charge.

When I delivered, I got $1/hr plus the delivery charge. If I got a really lousy tip- ie somebody deducted the delivery fee and thought they were generous to give me six cents to get to the next dollar- I usually wasnt' in much of a hurry to deliver to them next time. I didn't sabotage food or anything but the tightwad was almost always the last delivery on the run.
