TW1 is one of the best RPG's of all time IMO. Combat isn't terrible but is ver repetitive. If you enjoyed TW2 and can make it through the first two hours or so I think you'll enjoy it.

Yes, you should buy Witcher 1. Remember that the first act is not representative of the 4 acts that follow it. Man its a great game and I'm glad I powered through until I got to Vizima. For the price you'd pay for it today, why not just buy it to see if its your cup of tea?

I liked tw1; but it took me a while to get into the game (combat was not so much fun). TW2 the combat was more enjoyable but he game is a lot shorter. Sadly I barely remember tw1 story; when I played tw2 i loaded my last save (from tw1) to try to refresh my memory of what happened into tw1; and ended up having to read a summary and then checking an older save file :)
(also picking it up fresh; i found the combat very akward as I did the first time i played; but after getting to middle of act 2 or so the combat became less of an issue for me; so yes it can take a while to get used to it).
tw2 was greatly simplified in many ways and the combat mechanics are not the strong point of the witcher game but the rest of the game is good enough it doesn't really matter (I think skyrim combat is more diverse and interesting).

I liked TW1 until you got to act 2 and the town. I remember running through the swamp after getting out of the town. Then I was completely turned off to the game and stopped playing it. Not sure why. It just started getting really repetative.

I already have the game and wanted to replay it before I play the sequel, but I got it for free with a graphics card and don't have a cd key so I can't upgrade to the enhanced edition. Does this give you a key that I can use with my current install or will I have to download it and install it all over again?

Did you register your copy of TW?

I did when I got it, but it's since been uninstalled and I lost the email from Atari with the cd key.

Had a spare hour while my son napped and wife was shopping so I thought ok, lets see if I can actually play it.

Actually its not too bad. The story actually pulled me in and made me interested. I still can't get into the combat but its alright I guess. Cranked the game to max and my HD6970 seemed to handle it well.

Will I finish this game? I doubt it. If I can't finish Skyrim, this has no chance lol

It is much easier to finish the Witcher than Skyrim. The story pulls you much more in the Witcher than Skyrim. I know I never finished Skyrim but played the Witcher twice (although I have 90 hours in Skyrim, I just never followed the plot missions after visiting the monks the first time.)

I enjoyed it at first, but then got thoroughly bogged-down, annoyed with the game by the end of Act 2.

Your so close to the game really heating up... if you enjoyed W2, you owe it to your self to grind it out. The story really starts kicking it up a notch where your at.

that was...maybe 2 years ago.

not starting that spot up again. If I ever play Witcher again, I'm going to have to start over. I would likely play Witcher 2 before that, though.

The beginning was rough for me with the first Witcher. I uninstalled it but went back to it later and enjoyed the experience. Never thought I would play a game where the main character could do the hippity dippity with the Lady of the Lake.

Damn, I never got to the hippity dippity with the Lady of the Lake.

Oh, and I finished the game last night. Very good game. Battles in Act V and the Epilogue were great, though my Igni sign was soooo powerful by the time I got to the last act. Will be importing my last save file into TW2 tonight.
