Should I buy TF2?

I'm a hardcore sim / RTS gamer and have rarely played FPS type games. A long, long time ago I did play the original TF (at work) and it was fun so I'm thinking maybe it would be worth it to plunk down the $20 and buy it. Is the gameplay fairly easy to pickup and could I be mildly competitive?

Thoughts?

Yes, buy it. You should have tried it out during the free weekend.

I am also considering buying it. How do I get good at tf2? I played this free weekends and I got like 1 : 3 kill ratio. Maybe I should get tf2 on 360 since people on it suck and you can improve a lot better ?

Damn, didn't know there was a free weekend. That certainly would have answered any questions I had about it then.

That's what I hate about multiplayer sometimes. At the beginning, you're going to suck and the higher rated people prey on you. You more or less have to become addicted to a game just become competitive in it. Depends on the game though.

No I really didn't like it and barely played it. Maybe about 10 to 12 hours tops sense buying it a few months ago. I find it boring.

Could you give us an example of a game you didn't find boring?

To the OP, buy it. If you're like pcslookout and get all butthurt playing multiplayer and only get 10 hours out of the game it will be the equivolent of buying a single player game and finishing it.

As for me, I loved CS:S, but I love TF2 more. The net code is better; the classes are varied, but precisely balanced; the maps are balanced; and the fun factor is sky high thanks to exploding bodies, funny sound effects (voice overs mostly), and tons of things to do.

As for getting better quickly. There are guides on Youtube that give some decent hints, but, overall, you need to go play and learn from each encounter.

It's a better deal with the Orange Box (on sale). The only online FPS games I've taken to are RTCW:ET and TF2, never played much of anything else.

Try different classes, and observe the strategies that other players apply to them. Not all classes require quick reaction times or steady aim. The best class for a noob to help their team is (arguably) the medic. Kill ratio is only one metric of 'success' - personal points, team captures, and other measures can provide satisfaction.

Yes. TF2 is by far my favourite game. I play on average 1 hour a day, then like 14 over the weekend. It's so addicting and only gets old after like...5-6 hours of non stop playing.

tf2 is a much more polished/finished version of tfc.

At first I was slightly disappointed that it didn't play exactly like TFC due to nostalgia but after finishing a couple maps worth of play I liked much more than TFC.

On Steam, the Orange Box is $40. Is that the same one you are referring to?

CS:S I love. Bioshock as well. More just can't think of them right now. Oh yeah the GTA series and plenty more. TF2 just didn't do it for me.

The Orange Box is the best deal in gaming. HL + Portal are worth the 39.95 and TF2 is frosting on the cake (in this case the cake is the truth).

I already have Portal. Freebie for buying an NVIDIA video card a while back. I also got HL2:Deathmatch and HL2:Lost Coast or something like that. I was playing Deathmatch last night for a while and it was fun except that I consistently was dying at about a 3:1 rate.

I think I'll go ahead and buy TF2 this weekend and give it a go.
