I personally held off on the ipod touch line until the retina displays came out. Retina IMO is genuinely exciting technology.

ipad 3 is supposed to have a much higher rez display.

definitely buy one now before the ipad3 comes out in march. production yield problems are stalling the release due to the retina display

I know it's a few weeks after the last reply, but it might be worth it to pick one up used. I'm selling mine to a coworker because it wasn't really great for what I was trying to do with it (take lots of notes and organize information). Sitting here looking at it now, I don't know what it's really *great* for, but it is very neat, and clearly the screen is fantastic. I'm going to love to get a look at the iPad 3's screen since it is supposed to be far better.

Until they surf the net flawlessly and at a very fast pace, then I am staying away. I'm looking forward to more powerful ARM processors in the future, but right now it is painful for me to use them. The A6 looks promising.

I never had any issues with browsing speed on my iPad. It seemed as fast as it does on my PC.

I've been wanting an iPad 2 since it came out, but then my sister got me a Motorola Xoom for VZW so I essentially had to use it. I've finally decided to try and sell the Xoom, but I'm definitely not going to make enough profit off it to sell it and buy an iPad 2 outright.

I think you still have about 3.5 months to go (if they stick to their normal schedule). I'd definitely purchase one, but like another person said, get it used (which I can't even find those till I get rid of this Xoom.. ugh.). >_<

What does an ipad 2 really cost ? Keep it in good shape and I would bet it'll be worth $250-$300 even if sold 2 years from now.

So the net cost isn't much.

I have to point out that I am thoroughly disgusted with my idevice. You really cant do half the things it is capable of doing because it just drains the battery way too damn fast. There is definitely a serious bug with ios 5 that is causing even more battery suckage. I disable all location services and use airplane mode whenever possible, but the battery still just doesnt last very long. I kill all running processes. I find myself constantly managing to maximize battery life. There just is no realistic way you can use one of these devices in a simple easy care free manner because if you do you will not get any battery life. I just do not understand how a company that has failed so miserably can possibly be so successful... Until they actually start addressing battery life in an intelligent way, I cant recommend buying their products. They need to aim for at least 24 hours. Then realistically you might get 10. As it is now if they say you get 8 in reality you get 2-3. Much less if you do any serious processing. It makes no sense...

lol, whatever you do, don't switch to any other device considering Apple makes one of the longest lasting devices. Apple has a good track record for reporting true battery life claims. This has been true for their iPhones/iPads/Macbooks.

If your iDevice isn't lasting as it should, you may want to get it checked out.

Have you not seen the benchmarks of the A5? Its pretty much the fastest SOC available.

Same here. Mine surfs every bit as fast as a PC. It's almost as if it's made to excel at such things, freaky. ;)

Yes, browsing on an iPad2 is definitely speedy, but come now, it's not quite as fast/smooth as on a good PC. We're getting there, but we aren't there yet. :)

I agree, I have an original iPad that was used before I even got it, and i havent charged it in over a week and its only at like 70% battery. I dont use it a LOT but i do use it for moderate surfing before bed and checking e mail. I also used it the other day to watch a movie, 100 some odd minute movie and it only depleted maybe... i dunno... 15% of the battery? I think your idevice is faulty.

Isn't Retina display LCD based?? If so, it's still an ancient old technology.

I don't think I will touch on the iPad or any portable devices until the "Plamsa-Like" display is released. Everything else is inferior. I need to be able to see the same richness and brightness of pictures when viewing at 179 degree angle, in vertical and horizontal direction. Video response time is also horrible. It needs to be equal to plasma displays. I wonder this will ever happen... I was expecting this to happen like right now. It's 2011 already. Please don't tell me it will need another 10 years lol...

I've never done a head-to-head comparison, especially considering that my computer is on a wired connection, but my iPad 2 was never noticably slow. Then again, I'm not one of those people who benchmarks his browser.

My buyer seems really happy with his iPad, and I'm certainly happy with my $350. :p

I doubt "Plamsa-Like" technology will ever come over to a mobile platform. The iPad has an IPS display. It is by far the best option for a mobile device. It's colors and brightness is far superior to any plasma I have seen.

I don't benchmark either, but I can definitely tell the difference between browsing on a computer and on an iPad. They're both fast, but it's just faster on a PC. Which is to be expected.

If you want one, yes. The iPad3 if it retails at $500 will bring price of iPad 2 to $350 used, but no less I imagine. Therefore, you could sell it and get an ipad3 then if you wanted. The iPad2 is definitely sharp, but it is a toy (like all tablets).

My iPad one was slow as molasses. My iPad 2 is fine. And I bought the 2 a month ago.

Be careful: quality is lacking.
First ipad 2: dead pixels. Replacement.
Second ipad 2: Dirt under screen (physically under the glue.) Replacement
Third iPad 2: Dirt under different part of screen. Less noticeable, but considering replacement.

The dirt issue, from a quick look online, seems common. For a product i'm paying $750 for (AT&T 3G, 32GB) I damn well expect it to be PRISTINE.

Am I suffering some buyers remorse? Yeah...but I do like the iPad. When Win8 tablets come out, we'll see what happens :)

You shouldn't have to wait much longer at all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7" has a 1280x800 Super Amoled Plus display which gets you all of the advantages of plasma that you outlined without the high power consumption of an actual plasma display.

My iPad2 has been great, very speedy. I guess I may have been lucky though, the first I bought was flawless. However, I did get it at Wal-Mart, just in case.
