Should I be an asshat to my step-father? (a full paragraph story)

My room is the only room in the basement except for a bathroom and storage. Theres no reason anyone should come downstairs except for the rare need for storage access. My step father likes coming into my room to search for "food" and pop cans to clean up. I really dont like the idea of him coming into my room. I'm 21, and never really leave a huge mess that he's picking up. Today when I went to work i had a empty water glass and a plate that had maybe 3 crumbs on it from a bagel (not really the dirtiest plate), which i purposly hid out of view from the door to see if he'd pick it up. Sure enough its gone today. I understand its his and my mother's house, but I'm really starting to dislike him. I should be out of the house in a month or two as soon as my active duty army paperwork goes through, but untill then I just cant afford to move out. Anyways, I'm tempted to leave a note on my floor tomorrow that says "Theres No food in here, so please dont invade my privacy, I dont search through your room".

TB I certainly see your point but on the other hand, playing Devil's advocate here, it IS his house. Do you pay any of the bills?

Is it your house or your parents? If it belongs to them he can come in your room and pee on the floor if he wants.

Buck up trooper, it isn't so bad. He is cleaning your room, not going through your panty drawer.

Tell him not to sneak through your room.

Is it his house? I'd tell him you will make an effort to keep the room clean, if he makes an effort not to sneak around in there.

he's cleaning up your room dude..i wish i had someone do that for me 🙂

i'm sure he's not sneaking around. It's his place so just tough it out for a month or two. No need to start something bad over this. good rucks 🙂

Keep in mind guys that I didnt say he was wrong for picking up dishes. I'm just saying that I'm really starting to hate him for it. Its ridiculous.

And my room is usually pretty clean.. i've probably left dishes out 5 times in the 4 months that I live here. Like I said, I left the ones this morning on purpose hidden behind the view of the door to see if he'd check.

Maybe he has an obsessive compulsive behavior? Seriously, does this manifest itself in any other aspects of his life?

Yeah, I think he DAILY cleans the floor in the kitchen. He also plans days ahead what exact thing hes gonna clean in the house, and tells me about it.

Another scenario... my sister and her husband lived with us shortly while their house was being built. just a few months.
My step dad was cleaning the floor, and my bro-in-law made a pizza... which of course left a few crumbs.. he was telling me how mad he got mad at my bro-in-law because he had the nerve to eat while he was cleaning

Hell, my stepfather searched my room but would not pick up crap. I purposely let it get bad just so he'd have to go through all my crap

He's probably looking for your porn, and the weed you stole from the parkinglot the other night😉

Thats why you stash that in his room, they would never think to look there.

Sounds like OCD to me.

just take the dishes out of your room yourself. 🙂

then just let him know u cleaned out your room

or make booby traps for him!!

If he has an OCD, then I'd just leave it until you're out of the house. He's probably had to deal with it all his life and confronting the issue won't solve anything, it will just make you more angry and take it personally when he goes downstairs again and OCDs on your stuff again.

u make it sound as though he's going through your stuff.

you put a plate out of view of the door...well, obviously he's gonna go in to look around. its not like you're gonna leave dirty bowls and plates right in front of the door when ur done with them.

if you hid the plate in a drawer and he took it away, then that'd make sense. but if he just goes in, stands there, glances around, takes the stuff, and leaves, then i dont see what hte problem is.
