Let's put it this way, what you'd get in your system from it being on your hands if you weren't wearing gloves while handling it, can kill you.

Sure, why not. Execute anyone that uses, sells, traffics, etc drugs. Also anyone that rapes, murders, robs, etc. Just get rid of them all and what's left will be a happy wonderful place.

This is insane!! Killing a guy for smuggling heroin? The punishment does not fit the crime. So he is stupid and should do some time, but not be killed. In my opinion you should only be killed if it has been proven that you purposefully took another life. BTW effee, this board is in no way a sampling of what the world as a whole thinks of your countries actions as far as laws go. From what I have read, people are outraged, but they have no idea what to do, as they no nothing they say will help. Case in point would be that kid 10 years ago who tagged some buildings in Singapore who was caned. Nothing could be done about that, and most likely nothing can be done about this. Singapore may be nice and clean, but who cares if people are afraid if they spit on the sidewalk they will be caned, or worse. I cannot see Singapore being a very big travel hotspot, or am I wrong on this?

Send him to an island designated for criminals only.
Oh my god, that's a fantastic sense of wit! I bet there are many who didn't get it.

So if the majority of you guys see it the same way I do, why can't the Australians see it that way too? Or have they always been a carebear country

There are two things wrong with killing a man for drug trafficking. First the punishment far exceeds the crime. Here in the US we have this little thing called the constitution, that specifically restricts cruel or unusual punishment. The US supreme court has ruled that the death penalty is unconstitutionally excessive for any crime other than murder. For those of you who think trafficking drugs is worthy of the death penalty, I say your nuts. It's equivalent to suggesting a bartender or liquor store owner should be held criminaly responsible when some idiot drinks himself to death or plows through a pedestrian in his car. In a just and free society the punishment should fit the crime, plain and simple.
Second, this punishment would do little to deter future drug trafficking. These traffickers are not drug kingpins, they are bottom of the barrel mules. There are plenty of poor, stupid and desperate people who will risk their lives for a chance to get rich quick. The fact is that over 3 decades of fighting a war on drugs here in the US has shown that harsher punishments do not deter drug use or sale in a free society. Where has increasing prison sentences, manditory minimums, asset forfeiture, etc. gotten us? The drugs are more available, more pure, and cheaper than ever in the US.
Now obviously singapore is not the US. Don't make the mistake of believing their excessive punishments that appear to work there will somehow work here. Singapore is a authoritarian police state/city. Nearly everything is against the law there, and the law is strictly enforced. They have sacrificed individuality and freedom for security in their small urban island. Sure they are effective at controlling crime and drug use, but there is a price.
We could try and replicate their low drug use and crime but it would require a massive increase in government police powers. We would have to throw out much of the constitution while setting up our new police state, which we are nicely on our way thanks to the WOD. I personally don't think its worth it.

Save your sympathy for those who actually deserve it.
