to life on earth?

What do you do when an millions of idiots are holding a gun to your head because they live in an alternate universe too afraid to face reality? What to do when a hallucinating psychopath tries to grab the wheel and drive over a cliff for safety?

Conservatives are bad bad poo poo.

I lost you when you said Climate Change deniers posed a threat to life on Earth. The combined efforts of the entire human race aren't going to end life on Earth, even if we were actively trying to end life on Earth.

Make it extremely unpleasant for ourselves and cause a mass extinction, possibly. But wipe out life entirely, nope.

Let’s just ignore China Russia and the other countries that are laying waste to their environment, it’s clearly the conservatives that are the problem.

Maybe exactly the problem, as the world climate threat lies in a threat, if we do not act now, we will hit a tipping point, that will be irreversible later.

But since it has not yet undeniably happened yet despite all the warnings signs, the climate deniers advocate we wait and wait until that tipping points happens. But by then the damage will be irreversible. As something like the gulf stream will be gostopppen and can't return to normal for a few thousand years.

Gee and gorhootie, shall we wait until idiot climate deniers lose out game of Russian roulette with our climate? For all the good it will due us to bame climate deniers after we are all fucked? As if it will do us any good after they are proved wrong.

Uhhh, China is one of the leaders in renewable energy sources. Derp. I wonder how they compare to the US on a per capita basis. I'm sure you'll claim, and probably correctly, "but, but, but, they use more coal than us! " But, but, but, there are more than 3 times as many people living there.

Derp, making them and relying on them are 2 different things.

But But But, educate yourself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollution_in_China

1. According to the Chinese Ministry of Health, industrial pollution has made cancer China’s leading cause of death.
2. Every year, ambient air pollution alone killed hundreds of thousands of citizens.
3. 500 million people in China are without safe and clean drinking water.
4. Only 1% of the country’s 560 million city dwellers breathe air considered safe by the European Union, because all the China's major cities are constantly covered in a "toxic gray shroud". Before and during the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing was "frantically searching for a magic formula, a meteorological deus ex machina, to clear its skies for the 2008 Olympics."
5. Lead poisoning or other types of local pollution continue to kill many Chinese children.
6. A large section of the ocean is without marine life because of massive algal blooms caused by the high nutrients in the water.
7. The pollution has spread internationally: sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides fall as acid rain on Seoul, South Korea, and Tokyo; and according to the Journal of Geophysical Research, the pollution even reaches Los Angeles in the USA.
8. The Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning in 2003 had an internal and unpublished report which estimated that 300,000 people die each year from ambient air pollution, mostly of heart disease and lung cancer.
9. Chinese environmental experts in 2005 issued another report, estimating that annual premature deaths attributable to outdoor air pollution were likely to reach 380,000 in 2010 and 550,000 in 2020.
10. A 2007 World Bank report conducted with China's national environmental agency found that "...outdoor air pollution was already causing 350,000 to 400,000 premature deaths a year. Indoor pollution contributed to the deaths of an additional 300,000 people, while 60,000 died from diarrhea, bladder and stomach cancer and other diseases that can be caused by water-borne pollution." World Bank officials said "China’s environmental agency insisted that the health statistics be removed from the published version of the report, citing the possible impact on 'social stability'".

2 things can be equally true:

1. The so called modern conservative seems to be scientifically illiterate

and

2. This is a silly thread.

*PS: the rising acidity in the oceans says hello

What is your point? That a mass extinction would be no big deal as long as we don't wipe out every last lifeform on the planet?

What do you propose that will actually make a difference in the climate change issue? Do you actually think that humans are changing the climate? If so, what can we do to change it that is actually doable?

Live without electricity?
Drive a bicycle to work?
Keep sheep and make your own clothes from wool?
Outlaw travel by plane and trains and Buses?

It is quite possible that the sun and the solar system and the temp of the earth's core or magnetic changes in the earth, cause global temp changes. Weather is always changing. It has been since I can remember.

What does the USA have to do with the pollution in China? That is their problem. They are killing themselves. Of course their pollution is blowing in the wind towards the west coast.

Of course all the radioactivity being released in the pacific ocean by Japan is not helping either. So how long have we had Temperature figures and how old is the earth?

Do what liberals tell you to do. It's the only way.

This thread is a good example of why I usually don't discuss climate change anymore. I'll vote for any politician that suggests he might do something about it, but the diologue at this point has deterioriated to the childish refusal to accept basic scientific findings and deliberate misrepresentations of peoples concerns. So fuck it, I'm not going to sit here and get trolled. Sit there and type out all your clever little one liners and post your smug little links until you're blue in the face and a mud slide is carrying your house away.

I do wish that climate change deniers would register (and I would be happy to recipricate as a climate change believer) with their information so when we have 10 hurricanes a year, rising seas and famine, people know who to thank, and with our idiodic gun laws, they can thank them in the most effective way possible (interesting that climate change deniers and gun nuts seem to be largely the same crowd).

Yes , but the question was, should we despise them. I knew they would provide the reasons as to why they are despicable, but should we allow that feeling. Think about Jesus, the light of the world, up on His cross and His, Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Teaching pigs to fly seems useless and it pisses off the pigs. So the question remains, how should one react to filthy brain dead scum? Their destruction of our country goes deeper than climate change. These are folk who are profoundly mentally deranged.

Yes, I did think about that, and I don't really have the answer. I have friends that are homophobes, I have friends that are racists, I have friends who think that people on welfare should be sent to Afghanistan to be used as human shields, and yes, I have friends who are climate change deniers. I wouldn't count any of these people as close friends, but I keep them as friends none the less. I have often wondered why I do this, and I think it's because I've decided that we are a country full of people with insane ideas and views, and whether those views are delivered by FoxNews, the pulpit, Rush, Sean, or wherever, if I limit myself to friendships to people with what I would consider sane viewpoints, I would be very lonely indeed.

Also, I know that views can evolve. When I was much younger (teenager) I was homophobic. I've come to not only shed that view, but to be as vociferous as I can on the issue and defend homosexuals when I have the chance. But climate change is a different animal. What will I do if the earth is severely damaged in 20-30 years and people start saying "oh yes, I suppose I was wrong about that"? At that point it is too late.

So now we are filthy brain dead scum? I thought you were advocating that conservatives weren't dumb at one point?

Liberal answer to polution: Carbon tax.

That will fix everything.

Maybe you should look elsewhere, you know, outside the US and towards Asia. I'm sure, given the subject matter, you'd be crazy enough to advocate nuclear war to stop this "threat" of developing nations from emitting more CO2.

Our emissions are naturally reducing from our abundant natural gas utilization. Theirs is skyrocketing.

USA CO2 emissions may drop to 1990 levels this year
