Many will say it just proves the law doesn't go far enough.
It probably doesn't. I bet your life the guy had a history of mental issues or acting nuts.
It was an Assault Rifle in a (supposedly) secure airport terminal in a state with an assault weapon ban, magazine restrictions, a waiting period for purchasing firearms, no private sales of firearms without an FFL/background check, and carry restrictions.
And who stopped the bad guy with a gun? A good guy with a gun.
They won't be talking about this for long.
Man, those gun laws are working very well.
Wasn't it a cop who stopped the bad guy?
Are cops the good guys today? Because yesterday they were the bad guys and it was okay to shoot them.

How are you gonna spin this if it turns out the guy legally owned the weapon he used?
It seems a TSA agent was shot

:hmm: I have a flight to LAX in less than 20 hours. I wonder how hosed up everything is going to be
Not all cops are bad, not all cops are good. I'll assume good in this case barring evidence to the contrary.
And so what if he legally owned the weapon? Guy at the Navy Yard legally owned his. As I said I'd be fine with mental health checks to buy a gun, I just don't trust the government to implement them in such a way that safeguards gun rights.
I have to address this, the military already tried mental health qualifiers during security clearance applications and reviews. If you had a mental issue you could be and would be denied your security clearance. For many people having a clearance is required to have your job. You get sent to another job field if you lose your clearance.
This led to many people hiding mental problems and not seeking treatment. People denying treatment and hiding mental health issues are more of a threat and problem than people properly treated for mental health issues.
All mental health checks do is create a stigma and drive people underground with their issues. We have enough self medicating in this country and we also have a hard enough time getting people to seek adequate treatment as it is. Your solution would simply be a way to exasperate an already horrible problem in this country.
We need to find ways to get people help not give them incentives to continue to hide and deny their problems.
LOS ANGELES (LALATE) Paul Anthony Ciancia is the LAX shooting gunman suspect, officials tell news. Paul Anthony Ciancia has been identified as the alleged gunman in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) shooting today November 1, 2013 that erupted at Terminal 3 near Virgin Airways. The suspect is a U.S. citizen. No Facebook account for Paul Anthony Ciancia has yet to be confirmed. Local reports claim that Ciancia, 23, is from Los Angeles and has a New Jersey residence.
Paul Anthony Ciancia was identified following a noontime news briefing by LAPD. At the time LAPDs Charlie Beck told news that the name of the gunman was known, but being withheld, pending FBI investigation. LAX issued an official news statement thereafter confirming the same.
it's NOT a former tsa agent:
Ciancia, 23, is a Los Angeles native who reportedly has no connections to the airport, and is not, as was suspected, a former TSA agent. The suspect may have had strong anti-government views, based on writings he was carrying with him at the airport.

Then what's the point? Just sit on your hands like the NRA tells us to. Shrug... another shooting and innocent people killed.
Too bad he didn't kill himself instead of other people.
The gun he used is already illegal in California. Shut your librul mouth.
Bullshit. There are plenty of people in CA who legally own so called "assault" weapons. I own one myself along with a bunch of 30 round clips.
So you shut up manlet. :sneaky:
