I've filed my dispute with my CC company, but I didn't enclose any paperwork about the deal. Figured I'd fill out their silly 1-page form and see what happened. I have a copy of my contract, but does anyone know how I can get a copy of the 10K they filed? I tried that freeedgar.com page, but couldn't find anything. Anyone know of another place, or have it saved somewhere?

Thanks! Keep fighting! A free computer, minus shipping, even, would be the best of Hot Deals!

Funny though JJ before I read this thread. I just ordered a free Rocketboard from rocketboard.com. Too bad it is only 1 kb per household else shopss.com would just sent us those kb. Hehe.

TeacherTim,
I just filed my complaint and faced the same problem you mentioned. My response was to paraphrase (edit out some stuff) jjorden's helpful posting several threads ago and said the following:

Please read what shopps.com filed with the SEC about their ability to purchase goods or to even run the web site:
http://www.freeedgar.com/Search/Fil...Filed=&CompanyName=AMCI+INTERNATIONAL+INC
Please look at the annual report they filed. (The link worked when I tried, but if it doesn't, go to the underlying link http://www.freeedgar.com and search for AMCI.)

Here are some excerpts. --THEY HAVE NO MONEY !

<< As of the date of this Form 10- KSB, the Company is insolvent and its ability to continue in business will depend on the raising of additional capital, either in the form of debt or equity, or a combination thereof. However, no assurance can be given that the Company will be successful in raising additional capital or remaining in business. Management of the Company believes that its ability to raise any capital will be dependent upon the acquisition of complimentary businesses, particularly in the internet telephony business. While the Company has identified several targets, it has been unsuccessful to date in reaching any agreement. (P. 3)

Currently, the site is not operational in view of the Company's financial difficulties. (P. 5)

At this time we are unable to purchase and ship merchandise for the ecommerce site. The telephony service is presently down until funds are available for a deposit for additional service from the carrier. P. 12)

The Company was financed by sales on its websites, sales of its telephony service and financing from Shopss Israel. When Shopss Israel collapsed, the sources of money became unavailable. This has put Shopss.com, Inc in jeopardy of survival. As of May 1, 2000 the Company was past due on payroll. It has no operating funds available. It is past due on its payables and a skeleton staff is working with no salary to maintain the operations of the Company. (P. 11)

At this time we are unable to purchase and ship merchandise for the ecommerce site. The telephony service is presently down until funds are available for a deposit for additional service from the carrier. (P. 12) >>

ViperSky - I actually have two of the Shopss machines. One is my girlfriends and I couldn't get the 700mhz PIII to work in it. Mine is working fine. Turns out that the PIII chip I got for her is defective. So I'm doing an RMA on it as I type this. I put my CPU in her machine and it runs fine. So the SHOPSS hardware is okay. It has to be the PIII

JJordan: You mention in a past shopss thread about a wallstreet article called angels of death that talks about the dying .coms - I am doing a paper about dying .coms (in which shopss figures very prominently) and so that article would be interesting to me, but the wallstreet.com site really sucks since there is no apparent way to search. Did you read that article in print or online? and if online how did you find it?

It was in the hard copy around the time of Boo.Com's death. Almost every day it seemed a story was written about dot.com failures and the shortage of cash. Just today in one of the national papers (NY TIMES I think) was a story about how "good deals" on the internet are getting harder and harder to find because companies are being required to turn a profit much sooner than they thought they would need to to stay alive with investors. I do not have the hard copies, but the Library of all places might :)

JJordan: OK great, I just needed to know if I should be looking online or in print. Thanks

If anyone else knows of good articles on dying dot coms let me know! It seems easy to find articles like 'all dot coms are gonna die' but no hard facts, like X million has been invested by VC since 1998 or whatever. Quite annoying and it puts a big dampener on my paper writing :( I only managed to fill about 1.5 pages with stuff about shopss. Oh well.

Look up articles on amazon.com. Analysts' projections of poor sales and earnings sent their stock on a huge tumble just last week.

Yeah I put some stuff in there about Amazon since it is so clearly one of the big offenders when it comes to losing money. I ended up just working on my paper late last night and pretty much finished it. Still i will end up using some of that information in my presentation about it. I think I will add a bit of humour by showing off overheads of dead dot coms. BBQ.com comes to mind as a dotcom that was pretty much dead from the start. BBQ tips on the web? yeah sure.... If you know of any good websites based on pure idiotic ideas let me know they would add interest to my presentation. Another one is furniture.com. Yeah Im sure people are gonna want to buy a bed online.. imagine the shipping costs!

ballerz21: Quite simply, you have about as much chance of getting a cpuless computer as you have chance of someone answering the phone. (which is about as good as the proverbial snowball in hell). Call your CC co and dispute. You can at least try to get your money back but dont ever count on seeing anything from shopss

You think they are stupid enough to send you the SAN PC so that you dispute like all of us and get all your money back?
Dispute the charge and get you money back before they went under!

I filled out the little form to dispute and about 5 weeks later I got a letter saying they were crediting $371 to my account.

Something else I thought about, for those of you whose credit card are prorating you membership fee, $72 was a shipping fee that you should get the full amount of if they never shipped you anything.

I just want to say Thanks to the person who recommended using a webcertificate so long ago. That persons idea would have been useful in saving us the trouble of having to be charged another 299 at the end of the year, but that person also gave us a company that has proven to be very trustworthy for their dispute resolutions. I dont remember who it was that suggested it but thanks a whole lot!!!

I must agree!!!

WEBCERTIFICATES has earned my loyalty. They have stepped up to the plate and supported all of us in this situation. We should all spread their name around and help them become a major presence on the
net!

JJ.. Well my credit card company sent me an email saying it was resolved.. here it is...
Dear Mr. ______

Thank you for your inquiry. Our records indicate that your dispute is
resolved. Please contact our Disputes Department at 1-800-472-0832 for a more detailed explanation. If I can be of any further assistance, please
feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Anyways soon after the email i recieved a letter stateing i had a Finance charge refund of 8.51 because of the 371 charge and also it has an opening bal adjustment of 371.00

Under that it says that if i leave the balance of the dispute in my account for 90 days, that they would send a refund check.

So i take it its final. Funny thing is 8.51 for finance charge..i pay my bill in full every month....
anyways... 8.51 interest for them holding my money :)

;):)

Well it seems that everybody who has dis. the cc charge is geting there cash back:) but even if you do, I think it is a good idea to file a complaint with any and all org. you can think of, I think it could serve to help prevent this junk from hap. again, and it might help any other people with there dispute. So if you havent filed please do so:) anyone know how many people signed up for the gold membership? and how many have goten anything (cash back or computer) from shopcon? oh..and i still cant find the 10k report, I have looked all over the place, and no luck:(

hey jjor, I am sorry to have responded so hotly to your eairler post,
I do understand what your saying.

We put our trust in the honesty of people, now that the trust has been broken, we need to show our disapproval. so if anyone has had any problems with shopss.com please file a complaint.

It would really help if the people with success stories told us who their credit card company is... I'm still waiting for Citibank to process paperwork.

In fact, a week ago, I got a letter asking me if I was still disputing the charge -- wtf? So I said yes and faxed their letter back along with two SEC filings that said Shopps.com was broke, and one of their promo-emails that stopped coming...

I've based my dispute based upon the service agreement and them not fulfilling it.
