Shoplifter killed by Walmart employees.

Assault and illegal detention are more illegal than shoplifting. Why do Wal Mart employees who don't make a living wage care enough about Wal Mart's profits to attack a shoplifter? Are they just stupid?

If I were an $8/hour employee and I were told to "go out and confront that (potentially dangerous) shoplifter", I would say, "Hell no!". That sort of work is for people who are paid more than $8/hour.

Ironically, Walmart would have been much better off if they had just let this guy walk out with his DVD players that were probably made in China and that probably didn't cost much at wholesale. Now they're on the hook for attorneys fees plus a potential multimillion dollar judgment plus bad press.
 
Stupid employees - I am willing to bet that walmart would fire them before giving away two DVD players, yet if the guy had a gun and shot one of em, walmart would simply say they violated store policy.

This is what I was thinking. Walmart doesn't pay enough for their employees to defend corporate product. If I were one of them I'd have let dude bounce, and give as good of a description as possible. Fuck possibly getting shot for Walmart's shit.

Talking to a cop who does security at Walmart during the holidays on his own time, this is what he said, they are not to put a hand on the alleged shoplifter per Walmart policy, instead they are supposed to notify the police who usually are there in a few minutes and let them do the dirty work.

I can see this happening. I had numerous retail jobs when I was younger where it was expected for you to run out and surround a shoplifter if security called the code for shoplifter. I thought it was fun most of the time but there were some really sketchy moments. Specifically people who steal basic necessities like diapers.

When I worked at Office Max we were told to let shoplifters go and if a shoplifter makes it out to door, it's already a loss not worth pursuing. Instead they kept focusing on not letting it happen in the first place.

all I am asking is where in the article does it say that the shoplifter was killed by Walmart employees....it` is a given the person was found dead.....but ....why.,..well a choke hold could have caused the death....but again the article does not say he was killed by Walmart employees..... 🙂

I'm a lefty on probably 90% of issues however, the guy was stupid for trying to steal a couple of DVD players.

Does that mean he deserve to be detained to death by a Walmart employee who most likely didn't have the training to properly do so in a physical manner? Fuck no.

If he had been given a couple of black eyes and a busted lip, because he "confronted" the employees when they retrieved the stolen dvd player then I would say that's what the thief would have brought upon himself.

He's dead though. While some may disagree I don't think someone should be killed over a $100 dollars or so worth fairly common merchandise.


Bleeding from the mouth and nose could be an indication an improper use of a physical restraining technique or that the thief had a sever physical condition that led to his death from the act of exertion involved in running.


*If* it's the former then yes Walmart and the employee should be responsible for negligence.
The employee for doing something that led to an accidental death and Walmart for not ensuring that the the security guard the proper training exert physical detention techniques without accidentally killing someone.

Corporations are people my friend.

News outlets tend to like words like "alleged", but someone needs to do some alleging first otherwise it looks like the news outlet is pointing fingers. If they're wrong, they could be leaving themselves wide open for a lawsuit.

Well imagine that instead of the guy stealing 2 dvd players from walmart he stole 2 dvd players from some old guy who then proceeded to blast the thief with his shotgun on his front porch.

What do you think the reaction would be?

Completely different situation. Old man with shotgun vs. middle age man (if I remember the article right). Then the question would be was thief coming at the old man or was he running when he got shot?

Or to put it another way did the thief get shot in the chest or in the back?

What exactly is the point you are trying to make? Or are you just engaging in the trolling behavior you are known for?

How about we have 3 people sit on top of you to keep you subdued for, oh 15 or 20 minutes until police arrive. I wonder how well you'd be doing?
 
Who cares... It's some low life thug... I am happy he is dead. One less person to gain section 8 and move into your hood and start stealing from you. USA has such crappy laws for stealing ... Most people steal for the "THRILL" because your chances of getting busted are slim and when you do get busted you don't really go to jail unless your stupid enough to have been busted more than three times.

Anyway... We need to start chopping off fingers or do something else. It's just a free for all out there... Yet you try to smoke a joint minding your own business and you get 10 years... USA is fucked up backwards. Never mind the guy high on meth shoplifting... but get that dope smoker he won't even try to sue!
 
I will have to say that anyone thinking walmart is going to be paying anything is naive to say the least.

First off, it has to be proven they were acting under direction from walmart. Second, it has to proven his cause of death was directly related to the actions of the walmart employees. That is assuming the man isn't in a state where his commission of a felony doesn't allow people to use any force needed to protect their property.

We don't have the whole story as we do not know the cause of death or if the guy was resisting detention by the employees.
 
Walmart - the store where not only the prices are dropping, so are the shoplifters....

\it's revenge for all those trampled door greeters...
