I blame the 2nd amendment.

If we didn't have such a barbaric amendment these innocent kids would not have been able to illegally obtain firearms and instead of shooting on the streets they would be carefully raking their zen garden sands in peaceful tranquility.

My understanding is that it's illegal to carry a loaded firearm in California. These people shooting must therefore be unaware of the law. I think we should have pity on them. They might just really need a hot meal.

lol, reporter mentions a previous shooting where a guy shot a 7 year old accidentally and wasn't charged (with an obvious slant towards arresting him), and they immediately follow it up with the counselman saying the only way it will stop is to "remove the guns". ololo.

Don't forget about nursing injured baby seals back to health and helping old ladies cross the street.

I know the second I touched a gun I turned into a raving lunatic whose bloodlust is insatiable. I only stop firing randomly in the air to post on Anandtech forums, just wish we had a subforum for people like me that feel depressed if they don't go through at least 42000 rounds of ammunition a day.

I blame the gun manufactures for not making safer guns.
The gunman are wearing hoodies again we should ban them.

Is Oakland a failed city because of the crime, or is the crime because Oakland is a failed city?

Is Oakland a failed city because of the crime, or is the crime because Oakland is a failed city?

Soon after the war, with the disappearance of Oakland's shipbuilding industry and the decline of its automobile industry, jobs became scarce. Many of the poor blacks who had come to the city from the South decided to stay in Oakland, and longstanding black residents complained that the new Southern arrivals "tended towards public disorder."[46] The segregationist attitudes that some Southern migrants brought with them disrupted the racial harmony that Oaklanders had been accustomed to before the war.[37] Many of the city's more affluent residents, both black and white, left the city after the war, moving to neighboring Alameda, Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito to the north; to San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley and Fremont in Southern Alameda County; and to the newly developing East Bay suburbs, Orinda, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek and Concord. Between 1950 and 1960, about 100,000 white property owners moved out of Oakland—part of a nationwide phenomenon called white flight.[47]

It's really embarrassing for people watching them try to use sarcasm and fail that badly.

Oh, the issues of the legacy of racism and poverty, ha ha ha ha, they're just a joke!

There are parts of Oakland that would fit well in any wealthy community. And there are parts that are tragic.

Oakland like detroit is a tale of two cites....

“There is prodigious strength in sorrow and despair.”

"I see a beautiful city and a brilliant people rising from this abyss, and, in their struggles to be truly free, in their triumphs and defeats, through long years to come, I see the evil of this time and of the previous time of which this is the natural birth, gradually making expiation for itself and wearing out...”

I used to live near Oakland in Alameda. I remember when I first moved up I got lost looking for a mattress store.

My car GPS actually said current location had not been mapped when I turned into some ghetto part . Then like 15 guys with black doo rags saw me driving in and started looking over.

Most of Oakland is OK though and areas like rockridge and Oakland hills are actually nice. Lake Merritt too. But some areas they do need to basically vaporize with an ion cannon from space
