Whoa. Just watched this.

Pretty awesome movie in a pure mindless action way.

Clive Owen ftw.
Seriously, the "fireplace" shooting was just pure pr0nage! (pwnage + gun porn)

I saw it a couple nights ago and really enjoyed it...like others have said- it's mindless, over the top, "did they really just do that?" type of movie. Watching it with anyone who would take it seriously could be akward though =)
Corney lines, unrealistic scenes etc etc....but a lot of fun

that's why I loved it: it actually was fun to enjoy very unrealistic scenes. But from what I've read, it seems that is what the whole movie was made to be: poking fun at how convenient everything tends to be in gun action flicks, and the creators said: okay, well.. let's take that concept, completely go over the top with it, and add lots of bullets! 🙂

I love how all the critics of the movie don't seem to understand the point of the movie, even though it's blatantly obvious in the title: let's make fun of every gun movie possible, making our movie one giant ass parody. At the same time, we are going to take every cliched character personality stereotype, every cliched shooter moments, add a little kick and flavor, and make it a balls out shooter.

I enjoyed it a lot, especially on the premise that in all of its glory, for fans of major commercial shooters, you'll be able to pick out the stereotypical moments and know to what movie they are nodding to.
I defend it, because it was genius. I absolutely loved this movie for what is really was: gun porn, lots of action, and fun characters.

I see your point, but that's a rather liberal use of "genius." by that logic, trash such as "Scary Movie 1-18," "Date Movie" "Meet the Spartans" and every other spoof movie is genius.

It's one thing to spoof a genre really well, but it's never genius to pull off such a spoof. Of course, I agree that you should be able to appreciate it for what it is and not complain about its stupidity when it's obviously making fun of itself.

Clever, probably. Genius...no way. Genius requires originality, this stuff only exists b/c it isn't original.

I just can't imagine someone finding this film boring. Hitman...that's a boring "action" movie. Shoot 'Em Up was a lot of things, but boring was not one of them.

you are right, I meant clever. Genius is reserved for movies like 2001. 🙂
but genre spoofs can still be lackluster, and I guess you can still say its genius in the fact that it was done so well. I mean, spoofs still aren't easy to pull off. Again look to the comedy spoofs you mentioned, they don't exactly spoof that well, just sometimes provide good humor. A spoof that can apparently hide its referential humor and mascarade as a serious movie, might mean something. What that means, I have no clue. Maybe my lack of knowledge as to how to address Shoot 'Em Up is why I first went with the word genius. It's hard to really describe it as a pure spoof film, but its hard to describe it as a serious action flick.

regardless, its a fun, extremely non-boring 🙂P) gun porn action flick.
people who find it boring, make me wonder what things they truly enjoy and what something of Shoot 'Em Up's nature has to do to become the opposite of boring, considering the quantity of bullets flying, it was ADD-meets guns, resulting in gun porn. 😀

I watched it this weekend and loved it. It was pretty much the definition of "popcorn flick".

My only complaint is it looked like they spent about $15 on the last big scene - horrible, horrible CGI. Other than that, it was an awesome movie.

Common. Usually means they ran outta cash. Ruins a lot of flicks.

I just can't imagine someone finding this film boring. Hitman...that's a boring "action" movie. Shoot 'Em Up was a lot of things, but boring was not one of them.

It literally bored me to sleep. It just was not engaging or stimulating to the ol' gray matter. Indeed, quite the reverse. Mind numbing would be the term. Same experience recently with Transformers.

Well i can safely say that you and I would not get along, at all.

I watched it yesterday. It was a truly mindless action movie with gratuitous sex and guns. I watched the special features to and the director's reasons for making the movie. I thought it was ok, but I tend to like movies that have something of a plot. This one was very Quentin Terrantino like.

Aww, don't be like dat dawg. How about Eastern Promises or Dead Man's Shoes which I also watched recently? They are not "action movies" as such but did have action and bloodshed and neither prompted me to doze.

Alright. Went and rented it and just got done watching it. While it did have plenty of guns & action it was a total F U to the laws of physics. Monica Bellucci was hot as always. Very mild, almost PG-13 rated sex scene. Paul Giamatti's character is pretty funny as well. I loved when he was trying to snipe the baby, missed and shot a woman right through the stomach, and then casually said "Oops" as if he had just dropped a piece of paper.
All in all pretty entertaining and with the $2.
B-

Haven't seen either of them, but i do really want to see Promises. I'll let ya know. LOL

If you enjoyed the over-the-top action in Crank, this goes much farther. I was laughing out loud (in a good way) at how far beyond reality they went in the shootouts.

Don't expect realism, make sure you have popcorn, and it's a very fun movie.

Eastern Promises was another movie that started out slow, and just when you think it's gonna have lots of action, the credits roll and it's over. I was disappointed.

yea, i haven't seen either of those movies, but both Transformers and Shoot 'Em Up are two movies that I find to be extremely entertaining and fun to watch, and very exciting. Far from being able to bore me in any way. 🙂

Yeah, I couldn't believe it was over. Is there a sequel in the works? That'd probably be too cheesy.
