I think the obvious answer is these things shouldn't be illegal but barring that, there actually needs more classification so simple "crimes" aren't lumped in with actual ones (with life altering penalties).

exactly. lumping t hem all in with "rape" just makes it worse.

Name another sex crime. Beastiality is basically rape (since the animal didn't give consent), but even that's pushing it. Statutory is consensual and shouldn't be a crime. Pornography is nothing more than thought/expression (unless it's pictures of something non-consensual, in which case it's rape). Prostitution is consensual, and should certainly not be a crime. Exposing oneself shouldn't be considered a sex crime in most cases (unless it's chronic), it's at most some sort of disruption of the peace.

Seriously, name me something that should get someone registered with a life impacting title like 'sex offender'. It's nothing more than puritanical dickwads getting their panties in a bunch because they haven't had sex good enough to loosen up.

1. Attempted rape
2. Sexual harassment (although this one probably shouldn't get someone registered for life)

I'm still waiting for a rational explanation of how it's anything else. I don't believe there is one. I think it's emotional over-reaction, and puritanical outrage.

1. Doesn't exist in many jurisdictions. However, it's still RAPE...just the unsuccessful completion of it. Should carry the same penalties as if it had been successful. We shouldn't let criminals off the hook because they're bad at it. If a person tries to kill someone, but misses, should we really charge them with a lesser crime than if they'd succeeded?

2. Nothing more than political correctness most of the time. When it's TRULY sexual harassment, then it's a form of harassment, not a sex offense. If there was ACTUAL sexual contact in a non-consensual way, then charge them with rape.
