But her happiness was short-lived. Because of necessary paperwork and processing, she and her husband were kept from picking Cowboy up for three more days. When they were finally able to pick the dog up, they were informed that Cowboy had been euthanized.

wtf, for THREE DAYS!?!?! that is fvcked up. 😕

i would've marched by ass down there and demanded they give me my dog
or else!

that whole story stinks. 🙁 :|

If you have a pet, make a regular donation to the local shelter. They run on low budgets, staffed by volunteers, and there's never enough space for all the animals they recieve.

Ever since they found my cat 3weeks after she ran away I've been making $100 donations to the local shelter every 6months.

That's a very nice idea. My first dog when I was about 5 years old came from the local pound. She was a mixed breed, but a real sweetheart and a genius by dog standards. I'll make a donation to the pound tomorrow, they do good work.

That is some bullsh!t man. We had to pick up or dog from a shelter on more than one occasion, and never had to wait 3 fvcking days to get him.

that's awful. you have an owner here who cared enough about getting her pet that she got a microchip implanted, and then you still had to wait 3 days for it to be processed? to make matters worse, the dog had to be put down -- for no apparent reason?! when a pet has been in your life for that long, it's no surprise the pain she feels, and whether suing is the appropriate path, it's an understandable path for the poor people who lost a loved one.

i must say i'm relieved that they fired the person who signed the paperwork. signing off on the death of a domesticated animal should be treated with a lot more care than that former supervisor seemed to have put towards it.

I wish I could afford it, however being in high school has its downsides, and one being that any job you get really doesn't help you make enough for more than gas/insurance/clothes.

I've never thought of that before, but I'm gonna try hard now to donate at least $50 a year because that's less than 5 a month.

Welcome to the efficiency of government agencies.

And some folks want people like this to run socialized health care???

Another case of overblown sensitivities for animals... a mistake was made, and dog 5/7ths of his way thru life was put down. Yes you love a dog, yes you grow accustomed to your pets... no it is not your human child. Get another dog, grow up, and move on. I can't believe the remarks about the supervisor, do you know how many documents cross his desk? Do you know the budget constraints shelters run on? He makes ONE mistake and you're on him like he slaughtered little girls. /sheesh

AND...keep your damn dog on a leash and this kind of thing won't happen

Hopefullly these people have the sense to not sue the city or the shelter.

WTF? This is an actual loss and a legitimate civil case for once, and you think the city doesn't owe them anything?

Sucks, but some of you guys are nuts talking about attacking other people over a dog.

Thousands of people die a year from medical mistakes, millions more don't have health insurance, a dog is nothing.

Well it was poor staffing (probably from underfunding) that caused this situation in the first place. Taking more money away from the shelter/city will just hurt future lost dogs and dog owners. How would you feel if your dog was euthanized because of new policy that was put in place due to low funding after a lawsuit like this. They already fired the guy responsible, that should be enough.

Sounds like poor management to me.

This isn't cause for a multi-million dollar lawsuit. But a few thousand is DEFINITELY in order here.

NO problem in government is caused by a lack of funding. No private company could waste money like the government and survive. This isn't a case of poor funding, but poor administration. If the government can't handle the job, they should farm it out to the most qualified lowest bidder.

The owners made the first mistake, everything after that is circumstantial.

So if I get into an accident, and the doctor at the hospital screws up and kills me, he's not responsible for his actions because the initial mistake was mine?

Um... no.

The only way I can make sense of your post, if there is any, is if you were talking about euthanasia. If euthanasia becomes completely legal, why shouldn't it be quick? Do you relish the idea of prolonged misery?
