Shelter Kills Dog Before Owners Can Pick It Up

...and bbq sauce.

If it was my dog, that guy that was fired wouldn't need a lawyer, he'd need a team of doctors to reattach the limbs I'd yank off.

But her happiness was short-lived. Because of necessary paperwork and processing, she and her husband were kept from picking Cowboy up for three more days. When they were finally able to pick the dog up, they were informed that Cowboy had been euthanized.

wtf, for THREE DAYS!?!?! that is fvcked up. 😕

i would've marched by ass down there and demanded they give me my dog
or else!

that whole story stinks. 🙁 :|

this is horrible.

not only are they out of a dog, but suing a shelter is like suing a soup kitchen.....you aren't going to get much, and you will end up hurting others much more.

1. So, the pound had the dog but the owners didn't pick him up until 3 days later because they had to fill out paperwork? What kind of paperwork takes THREE DAYS TO FILL OUT? Especially paperwork involving a lost dog. I'd just go to the pound and wouldn't leave until I got my dog back.

The dog was 10 though, so it wasn't going to live that much longer anyway though.

As an avid animal lover and hater of human beings, I feel like finding that son of a bitch who signed the poor doggies death papers and put him on a choke chain.

My Golden Retriever lived until 14, so you never know. If the dog was healthy enough to get out and escape the house, he probably was in decent health.

Another case of overblown sensitivities for animals... a mistake was made, and dog 5/7ths of his way thru life was put down. Yes you love a dog, yes you grow accustomed to your pets... no it is not your human child. Get another dog, grow up, and move on. I can't believe the remarks about the supervisor, do you know how many documents cross his desk? Do you know the budget constraints shelters run on? He makes ONE mistake and you're on him like he slaughtered little girls. /sheesh

I've known dogs that have lived between 17-21 years old. That dog was in his prime years as an old man. Fvckers deserve to get beaten. :|

My dogs are a part of the family and I love them dearly. I cried like a little bitch the day my first dog died. I fell to the floor and held my dead dog in my arms crying...and I was 21 years old at the time.

That dog was with me for 14 of my 21 years at the time.

At least the shelter is owning up to its mistake. Can't really ask for more than that.

Everything is relative, and in the end a dog is a dog. A temporary existence in your temporary existence. Love and cherish it while it lasts, so that when its gone you'll know your time was well spent and without regret. Then move on.

Of course you can. You can ask for reparations, you can ask for punative damages, you can ask that a system is put into place to assure that something like that wouldn't happen again and you can ask for the culprits head on a plate. I have a feeling that the owners of the dead dog will ask for and get all of those things. The shelter saying "Ooops, our bad" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Why not pay a monkey to do his job yet? Bottom line: Be responsible for what you sign.

He got fired for not following protocol, which caused a death of an innocent animal.

BTW, when I was 8 my dog saved my life by dragging me from under an ice patch I fell through...that dog was my sister, as far as I was concerned.

Maybe a dog isn't my human child, but for some kids, it's the closest you have to a brother/sister or good friend, I know that's how it was growing up with Soma, she was my best friend, just because I knew that dog had my back.

Poor Dallas, I feel for the doggie, I really do.

my dog is currently 15 or so, shes seen better days, but ive seen much worse dogs, she isnt as playful as before but fully capable of running, moving, hearing, seeing etc. she looks just like she did when she was first found by us.

i had that dog when i was 5 im 19 now, its gunna be a bad day when she decides to go.

both of my grandparents dogs lived to be 17 and 18. one died when i was about 4, just went out back, lied down by a tree and died. he used to lay out in the road and fall asleep he was hit by numerous cars (35mph road) but after a while drivers would slow down around the house and watch for him it was interesting.

:brokenheart:

If you have a pet, make a regular donation to the local shelter. They run on low budgets, staffed by volunteers, and there's never enough space for all the animals they recieve.

Ever since they found my cat 3weeks after she ran away I've been making $100 donations to the local shelter every 6months.

Very sad.. 🙁

Animal Services Director Dr. Sara Pizano said Wednesday, "This was human error. I have no excuse. There's no reason for such a thing to happen."

On Wednesday, Pizano, who has run animal services for just five weeks, fired supervisor Barry Adkins, who had signed off on the paperwork that allowed Cowboy to be euthanized.

That pretty much sums it up, though.

Civil suit, perhaps? I wonder if any laws were technically broken?
