Shell announces Super Premium gasoline

Since the fuel doesn't flow over the valves in a DI engine I don't see much in the line of fuel additives that will control carbon buildup in DI engines.

Huh. 87 was the only non-ethanol fuel I could get back in IA.
Speaking of which, just filled up at a Shell station after work today, and they just stuck new "Super Premium Nitro+" stickers on top of the 93 gas 😛
 
It's next to impossible to find non-ethanol gas around here and the price of Shell 89 is .25 gal more than 87 and 93 is .25 more than 89. I can only imagine what the Super Premium Nitro+ might be.

Heh maybe they were using ethanol to boost the octane level for 89+.

Sunoco "White Lightning" used to be another quarter higher than their premium a few years ago.
 
Unless its a higher octane I dont care. I run 93 right now, but if I could get 95 or 98 I could run some more boost.

You know whats garbage about that? In Jersey, normal stations are 87/89/93 for regular/special/super. Sunoco now has 'Ultra' at 93 and 'super' at 91, trying to trick people into thinking their ultra is still 94/better than normal super from everywhere else.

why wouldn't you just switch to e85 at that point. at $8/gallon, it doesn't take too many fill ups for it to start paying you pack.

I don't know how true this is, but I read recently that the ethanol tends to separate from the gasoline in the tank and settle at the bottom. If you take gas from the bottom of the tank, it could be as much as 60% ethanol if using a 10% blend.

I'm not sure how they tested though. I can see that being true if a car is parked for a while. But once you start moving, should that mix everything up?

Anyway, the point was that if you're relying on a blended gas to get the right octane level, once the ethanol separates out, your 87 grade fuel might only be giving you 83 or less.

That's true. Sunoco did start calling 93 "ultra" when it had always been 94 octane.

Maybe with the resurgence of boost, we will get 93 and 94 back?

Assuming you don't have a returnless fuel system, it's all constantly getting mixed when the fuel pump is running (from key-on).

I have an flex-fuel sensor so I can tell these things, but I don't run straight 91 so I don't know. 😛

I hope so. 94 would make a lack of E85 much more tolerable.
 
I'll wait for the Super Premium V-Power Nitro+ Insane Epic Elite Turbo 4KUHD+ 3D gasoline before I spend extra money on it.

Honestly, though, how about giving us gasoline without ethanol in it? Many motorcyclists, classic car enthusiasts, etc. would be very happy.
