Sorry Cindy, but you've made this all about you. YOU are the one making a scene about your son to further your agenda. YOUR son who VOLUNTEERED to join the forces. YOUR son who VOLUNTEERED to go on the mission where he was murdered by terrorists(or whatever label you want to put on them). YOU are the one trotting out the anti-Semite talking points. YOU are the one trotting out the anti-Bush talking points. Yes, Cindy - you've made this about YOU. YOU turned this into your own little quest against Bush.

So don't blame those who want people to know who you are and what you stand for, for making this about YOU - YOU did it yourself.

Yes, we empathize with you for your loss, but that does not mean you are exempt from scrutiny or can be shielded against people scrutinizing what you say and who you willingly associate with. Sorry, this is a free country, and we can express our thoughts just like you can. YOU choose to express your thoughts it by making a scene for the media and bringing in questionable associations to bolster your numbers - we choose to express our thoughts about your scene and cause. YOU can't tell us what we can or can't speak about - just like no one I know is saying(or should say) you can't say what you want to say. WE ALL enjoy free speech rights - not just YOU.

non-partisan "mother"?

In the court of public opinion, Bush's invasion was doomed from the start. The invasion was an act of agression. The American public's support for it was built on lies. Those lies taint everything about it (even the good things like the ouster of Hussein). As those lies are exposed, loss of public support is inevitable.

The people attacking Cindy Sheehan are shooting the messenger. Bush lacked the honor and integrity to be straight with America about his reasons for attacking Iraq. He was then too stubborn and short-sighted to plan for securing the peace. This growing anti-war backlash is his responsibilty, not hers.

Oh, I think those you call "right-wing pea-brains" have figured it out and she doesn't like the fact that they have. Do you have anything productive to add or are you just going to call names?

Oh the irony!! It is OK for you to attack a country in retaliation of 9/11 who had nothing to do with it, but you whine about a woman who is peacefuly protesting her sons unecessary death.

Good fvcking god, can't you people even have a little sympathy? It's clear that she lost her marbles, can't you just let her be... Ugh..

Huh? Call apples - oranges much?

She has every right to express her thoughts, and so does everyone else. She put herself in the spotlight and is not exempt from scrutiny.

"lost her marbles" ? You sound quite sympathic  I don't think she's "lost her marbles", I just think she's let her grief become all consuming and she chose Bush to focus her rage on. She is entitled to express that as I've said, but it doesn't mean she is shielded from any criticism - especially since she chose to make a public scene.

Hmm. I don't see any where in that note that she says you are not able or allowed to speak your mind or to scrutinize her. Did you read the note you linked?

She called a spade and spade and the shovel showed up right on time! She has brought more attention to the fact that the republicans are now in the minority as far as trusting Bush and anything that comes out of his mouth, especially as it pertains to his biggest whopper of a lie, Iraq. She has exposed him as the coward we all knew he was when he avoided Vietnam. Too small to even talk to one angry mother. I wonder if he hides under Laura's skirt when he is driven past her. 3 years and counting for the lame duck.

Did you not read the first 2 sentences of her little post?
"Even after my repeated attempts to keep the focus of my protest on the war, the Drudge Report and others continue to try to make the issue about me. But I am not the issue."

That is a not so veiled attempt to exempt herself from being the issue. Well, as I've pointed out - she made herself the issue with this circus.
BTW - he's already talked with her so there is no reason to do so again - especially when she calls his names and says he's a terrorist. Meeting with her, AGAIN, would do nothing for either of them. She'd still hate him and call him a murder and Bush would still empathize with her and greive her loss.

Apparently she had her chance and chose not to. Then she attempted to parlay the situation into a media event. Why, who knows?

However, once she forced herself into the limelight (and more than her 15 minutes of fame), she should expect that her actions will be scrutinized.

Playing to the media in the political arena can easily get one burned.

Well, you read one thing and I read another, I simply don't here her saying she is exempt from scrutiny as you implied. The scrutiny is the best part, it tells more about her opponents than anything. It speaks volumes.

I agree it speaks volumes. Some people want to know where people are coming from when they put themselves out there and create a circus - it's called being informed. Another thing that speaks volumes regarding this issue is the company she keeps. Do you agree?

I am sympathic to her, she lost her fvkcing son. All you're doing is making the situation worse, she wants attention you're giving it to her.

Exactly. Forget the politics of it, she's reacting to a traumatic event, namely her son's death in a war she didn't agree with. So whether I agree with the war or not, I can certainly understand that massive loss and grief make people nuts, Democrat, Republican, whatever, and just be glad it wasn't my daughter...because her death would definitely fvck me up.

Anyone who strongly hates this woman for something so relatively trivial must either A) not have kids, or B) live across the street from Bush and just want the crowd out of their yard.

For once, I agree. This doesn't deserve any of the media attention it's getting.

amen to THAT

she's obviously exploiting her son's death, come on why else would she do this

edit: oh yeah i forgot, she wants to promote her terrible agenda of stopping more kids like her son from dying!
SHAME ON HER, and shame on Mother's Against Drunk Driving too!

This whole Sheehan thing is so very partisan when you think about it. Those who lean left see nothing wrong with what she's doing, those who lean right are, in one way or another, critical of her.

I bet she's doing it for money. None of the mothers I know give a sh!t about their kids. I have to be able to rationalize away this whole thing. Cause if Bush is wrong that would make me evil. And I know better than that. I'd rather bare false witness than find out that.

To some extent it's a typical (slow) August story-blown way out of proportion.

But given the huge number of free passes this Bush has been given by the media (his Vietnam War evasion and extensive past drug use leap to mind, not to mention the more current examples of the whole reason to invade Iraq or the overall ineffectiveness of the war on terror, both before and after 9/11) it makes one wonder what political axe these media gurus have to grind by going after this woman so viciously.

She left this morning or last night. Her mother or grandmother had a stroke, so she is going to go be with her.

Oh, I agree that she shouldn't be getting the coverage she's getting by the media.

Buck - I don't think anyone hates this woman, I know I don't. I empathize with her, and feel for her losing a son, but that doesn't mean I won't look at the whole circus she's created and make a judgement about it's message or tactics.

Gaard, not quite. There are some on the left that think her circus is hurting the anti-war push or atleast not helping it. There are some spinelss(or political opportunists) on the right who think Bush should cave into this woman's demands too. It's not really a straight up partisan issue. I being center/right thought sheehan was sincere at first but then when the other groups joined and her comments became more radical(or light was shed on her radical comments) I decided to take another look at the situation. She has every right to do what she did, but that doesn't mean her radicalism can't be exposed so people see the full picture.

How does this deserve any less of a media blitz than Terri Schaivo? That was your trusty neo-cons thrusting their beliefs on a citizen. Not laws, but religion. I am so sick of all of these hypocritical, pseudo-christian neo-cons, who preach from their elected office. It's total bullsh1t. It's furthered the shameful image of American politics. Thank you dubya. This woman lost a son to a war that was based on, if not outright lies, then complete mismanagement of information. She has every right to protest peacefully, per our constitution.
You cannot blame her for the media attaching itself to this, no more than you can blame Terri's husband for the media that hovered like vultures around her hospital.
