People do vote on gun issues but it is very lopsided. The people who put gun issues as their most important issue are almost certainly pro-gun. Its why GOP candidates cater to them in the primaries. They vote and are a big and active enough chunk of the electorate to put you over the top in a primary race. Its also why GOP candidates won't take any action once in office. They will be booted out of office by someone else looking to capitalize on any "weakness" in support of the 2nd Amendment in the next primary.

That's not the point. They are terrified and think their gun protects their life. Guns stopping guns is logically consistent. It is just about the only way you could expect to live while trapped in a room with a rampaging gunman. The issue is that those ideal situations almost never happen. But what if one day your life depends on it? What if you can save yourself? There is too much fear to say no to guns.

A society that is not armed is an inconceivable concept for those who vote for 2A.

There is a reasonable debate around liability we can and should have. Access to weapons must be controlled by the owner. And any responsible gun owner has a safe and/or trigger locks.
