shaving trouble

It seems that whenever I shave, I cannot avoid getting razor burn right above my chin. It's really annoying, and imo it looks bad. Any advice on how to take care of this?

Do you use any aftershave lotion and/or products specifically designed to reduce razor burn? Do you shave after taking a hot shower? And how many passes do you make over that area in order to shave it?

no shaving cream, I shave when I shower(I have a switch on the showerhead I can turn the pressure down with), and just one pass.

Usually I use a Gillette double bladed razor (custom plus or good news)

also, it doesn't matter if its a fresh razor or one that's been used a few days. I think I'm going to try some shaving cream though. Any recommendations? preferably something cheap.

Yeah, shaving cream could definitely help, as could aftershave lotion if you don't already use it.

I think Gillette makes a shaving cream for sensitive skin; you might consider giving that a try.

Edit: Also, I've noticed that at least with me, any disposable razor is many, many times more likely to cut and/or give me razor burn than something like a Mach 3 or Fusion.

At the very least use shaving cream, or better, shaving gel. The lubrication helps prevent irritation. Also, Whisper's suggestion to use a better razor is a good idea.

Barbasol Original, best widely available cream imo.

I like the way cream feels better afterward (i.e., less greasy), but gel usually results in less irritation. Although overall, I prefer shaving soap; seems to give the best of both worlds. Only downside is it's more expensive.

Bah, don't buy the cheap razors. A mach 3 probably isn't all that expensive anymore, and this will more then likely stop being a problem with one of them. With a good blade in my mach 3 I don't even use shaving cream.

I dont think I've ever shaved without shaving cream/foam/gel, even when in the shower. Just turn around so it doesnt get wet. or shave after showering.

Just an update, I started using barbasol and I think that helped some. In the end, what I've resorted to is using a moustache/beard trimmer to get it as close as I can. It doesn't irritate my skin and you can't really tell by looking.

use aveeno shave gel and shave with the grain. one pass only!
