from G4TechTv.com for 8595/8585:
http://www.g4techtv.com/screen...hty_Microtrimmers.html

Braun Activator
www.gillette.com
This is hands-down the best electric razor I've ever used...and I use electric razors exclusively. This thing looks cool and feels great! The trimmer works like a charm. Comes off the razor far enough that it won't shave you when you don't want it to but not so far that it's flimsy. The actual razor is like butter. It feels great and shaves very close. This is the razor I want to keep--and my girlfriend, after all was said and done, asked me to go back over my whole face with this one. BUY THIS ONE

Note:
the cleaning cartridges last 30 washes and cost 9 bux to replace (amazon)

I must say, I bought the Activator 8585 about 2 months ago. Great shaver. Looks nice and does a great job. No regrets buying it (except this deal would have made it a little cheaper). I've always used a rotary head unit and stayed away from foil. Not anymore. This unit beats any rotary head I've used before.

I'm up in the air about rotary vs foil back-and-forth. Had foil, then got a norelco, but on both of them I found I had to go over my face multiple times. That may be because both were most likely on the... ahem... "value" end of the razor scale. Reading that review above makes me seriously consider getting this one.

Went ahead and picked up one of these as well as the Logitec MX 510 mouse. Hopefully both will be worth the money.

I got it on the deal got the 8585...lan on using that coupon to buy some books that I've been wanting to pick up for awhile....
I have given up on using electric razors....this is their final shot for me....the only thing that works for me even in a regular razor is the mach3....and by the evening it looks like I haven't shaved in days may this will be a good solution for me...I'll report back when I've tried it out.

Tempted to get the 8585. I currently have been using a 3-head Norelco for some time now. Not too crazy about it, but it's sufficient with a bit of discomfort. I've never had a higher-end shaver, and this might be the first time I take the plunge.

Apparently $50 deal ends today, 11/30/04, so if I decide to get it, guess today would be the day. Not sure where else to check on prices for this thing to make sure this is on the lower end of the price spectrum (it's Amazon so I guess it probably is).

Menard's (a midwest hardware store chain) has the now discontinued Braun 4605 for $14.99. If only the head and cutter are taken and used with one of the newer models, that's still less expensive than buying a replacement head & cutter via normal retail.
Wally World has the same item for $44.94:

I decided to snag a 8585. Got it last week, it is hands down the razor I have ever owned. I didn't want to spend that much, but very well worth it.

Ditto. I recently bought one after going through 2 Norelcos in 2 years. Much better IMO.

Recieved mine via UPS today.....
Charged it up and used it for the first time....
Pretty darn impressed....more than expected...I haven't used an electric razor in some years and was suprised that it worked as good as it did right off the bat....can't wait to see if it even gets better with time....I am definitely outta the box pleased more than I thought I could have been.

I got the 8585 in the mail today, is charging atm, haven't used it yet. One thing I noticed on the reviews section for it over at Amazon.com. People were saying that the cleaning refills will evaporate anyway if you don't clean everyday. I had an idea though, just keep the cap and replace the cap on the cartridge, and remove the cartridge from the base when not cleaning. This way the stuff should last longer and you can get away with cleaning it only once a week or however long it's needed.

My last electric shaver was a not cheap Braun something-or-another. It pulled out one too many beard hairs and then it was, Braun met floor, floor meet Braun. :| I swore off electric razors ever since.

I now use use the latest high-tech Gillette Mach 3 Power (yeah, the marketing got me). I don't think it's any better than the non-vibrator Mach3 but it shaves closer and more comfortable than my Braun ever did and it doesn't yank beard hairs out.

I'm not trying to thread crap, just a warning to those who aren't used to 'lectric shavers. Try before you buy. :)

Not quite the same $50 value but 'nutha option is drugstore.com 8585 for same $139.99 shipped minus a 6% ebates kickback, 5% drugstore dollars, plus choose from a free pullover, backpack or shampoop.

p.s. real men use straight razors, if not a knife ;)
